Hi all,

I figured that the beginning of 2009 was as good a time as any to finally change my username (see signature) (thanks Sharon! ;)).

But, it also made me think a lot about where I am now, as opposed to where I was 12 months back.

Jan 2008, I was still studying in university (college), I had tons of work to do, a huge dissertation to write, exams to study for, and no time for the future.

Jan 2009, I’ve been graduated 6 months, will be 22 in June, and the recession hasn’t exactly been great for getting a proper full time job. (prayers please, something is looking promising).

So, I saw the recent ‘I’m pregnant’ thread where the lady said she was nearly 22, and for me it was like ‘whaaaat?’ - married at 21? - I’m 21!!!; and then I realised, that if I plan to get married, I need to have a full time, good paying job, somewhere of my own to live and care for a wife and family, a mature faith, maturity as a person etc…

Now, I realise 21 and a half is not the time to be having a mid-life crisis, but I can def. see how people can reach 30 and think ‘where did the time go?’. I’m done, I’ve seen the last 6 months, they went too fast, and I didn’t really get much completed. Never. Again.

But… I’m still feeling kind of shocked, because when you are studying you just put ‘life’ on hold, and I kind of continued that for the last 6 months, and then BAM, it was like God’s wake up call when I realized that I’d soon be 22.

Is this a natural progression around 21/22/23? Am I panicking over nothing? 😊

I’m praying that I will get this job, and I can start to breath more easily, but I won’t know till Spring, so right now, I’m still a little afraid.

Anyone else finding the new year a little daunting?

God bless,

A,

Well it depends on the person and said person’s goals.

I married Ian at 22, but I thought I was too young at the time. He practically forced me into it. LOL He said “This is the last time I am asking you and you are saying yes, dammit!” So I said “Yes, OK, I’ll marry you.” To which he responded, “good, now go get in the car, we’re going to Vegas before you change your mind. I know you.”

LOL

I managed to hold off for a week. Then I married him. Here we are nearly 13 years later.

I think your priorities are right, having a job and a home first (that’s very noble and good, not enough men are concerned with that stability as they should be. Dr. Laura would be very proud of you.👍 ) and the ability to provide. Now you just have to find the right girl. It’s possible you might find the right girl before the career and the house – as Ian did, and then you won’t want to let that go either. That’s ok too, you can work together to make a home.

Just be patient, she’ll come into your life before you know it. Go from there. Just don’t marry someone simply because you feel you need to be on schedule. God’s schedule is much more desirable than our own. Even when we don’t see it until years later, it all seems to make sense eventually.

In my early 50s I wonder where the time went, but I don’t dwell on it. Got stuff to do!

I look at each day as God’d gift. At 22 your life is before you. Years go by so quickly sometimes I think someone is FF the tape.

I look forward to each day, because gonna be something new to find out. I’m lucky that at this stage of my life my time is my own, I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to. When I was 22 I was newly married and working in a mundane factory job I* hated. *I knew God had better things for me to do.

I think the key to being happy in this world can be found in acheiving these 3 things-

A Faith that keeps you grounded, to guide you, and lets you know this is not all there is. The times I strayed from my Catholic Faith, were times I didnt’ feel good about myself.

A life partner that you not only love, find physically attractive, and compatible in major areas, but you LIKE. I know couples who love each other, but not necessarily like each other.

Find work doing something you love, and not just a paycheck, because you have to spend so much time at it. I hated my first job and it made me less a person. It paid me ok, but it was NOT what I was meant to do.

When you have number 1, the other 2 are easier to find.

If you can find those things, look for life to be fun and full of optimisim.
