I am a fairly new Catholic (I came in at Easter Vigil 2006.) Long story, but one of the things God used to get me here is the Traditions (both Capital T and small t) of the church. I am drawn to the more traditional ways of doing things… . We have an EO form of mass in town that started this fall and I’ve been going as often as I can (it’s at a different parish). (I have chosen to also continue to go to the NO form at my parish because I really like that parish - very good, orthodox, active parish.)

How do you live your traditional faith? I’m looking for suggestions on devotions, customs (Advent and Christmas especially welcome), anything?

Thanks!! 🙂

Welcome to CAF!

For devotions, you could pray the Rosary, novena to Sacred Heart of Jesus, Stations of the Cross, Novena to the Holy Souls in Purgatory, and attend First Friday and Saturday masses.

God bless.

PS: some folks here might go for Yoga but you don’t want to go for this tradition. 😃

Welcome to the Faith and to CAF. This may sound silly, but live the “little” things that a lot of our Catholic brothers and sisters have gone away from:
  • Daily prayer (perhaps the Liturgy of the Hours)
  • Attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation and, if time and schedule permit, attending daily Mass (don’t get hung up on EF vs. OF - they are both a gift from God)
  • Frequent use of the sacrament of reconcillation
  • Frequent reception of the Eucharist
  • Eucharistic Adoration

I don’t think I could get myself unknotted afterwords anyway. 🙂

I’ve been doing the rosary and divine mercy chaplet for a while now (several years). I fell in love w/ the rosary before I started RCIA. I’m going to check out the novenas etc mentioned.

I love both forms of the mass- am very blessed that there are many good priests in my diocese. Still trying to get to daily mass more frequently. Confession is always interesting for us converts I think. It was kinda intimidating at first, but I love being “squeaky clean” afterwords!!!

Does anyone know of a good resource on customs of the liturgical year? I’m looking at advent (almost over, I know) and Christmas.

Those are all well and good but it is even more fundamental than that. Do you have a blessed crucifix on the wall in your bedroom? If a person came into your home or apartment, would there be signs that you are Catholic? They wouldn’t have to look far in my house.

I do have a couple nice ones in my apartment. I’ve also been looking for some nice prints to put up (I moved in May and am still getting settled).
