Hello All,
I am in need of some practical advice and guidance (and maybe a pep-talk). First a little background (please bear with me).
I’m newly Catholic, recently relocated, married to a non-Catholic, and the mother of an infant and a toddler. I work part time from home. I don’t get a lot of support from my husband (spiritually or with the kids).
I am having a few problems I could use help with:
Thanks in Advance,
Nancy
I am in need of some practical advice and guidance (and maybe a pep-talk). First a little background (please bear with me).
I’m newly Catholic, recently relocated, married to a non-Catholic, and the mother of an infant and a toddler. I work part time from home. I don’t get a lot of support from my husband (spiritually or with the kids).
I am having a few problems I could use help with:
- Mass. If I bring my kids, I end up spending most of the time in the vestibule trying to keep them quiet. I am very stressed the whole time and feel like I’m not even at Mass. If I manage to sneak out during nap time while my husband is home, I bounce around from church to church and Mass to Mass, depending on the time and don’t get to know any of the clergy or parishners. Yesterday the only Mass I could get to was a Tridentine Latin Mass and I was lost and embarrasingly underdressed. Because of this, I am not registered with a parish nor been able to attend classes to baptize my kids.
- I am having a very difficult time keeping track of the Liturgical calendar and my obligations. Is there an on-line calendar that lists the Holy Days of Obligation and other important days along with their meaning, rules, and suggestions on how to incorporate them into daily life?
- I am overwhelmed by all the rules, regulations, and vernacular of the Catholic Church. I really want to live the Catholic life and be closer to God, but I don’t know where to start. The more research I do, the more confused I get – I feel like I’m studying to be a doctor instead of becoming closer to God. Any advice would be welcome. Any books you would recommend? Perhaps a Catholic Day Planner or workbook?
Thanks in Advance,
Nancy
