“Engineer Sees a Reflection, Literally, From a Scene in 1531.”
Scientists to their astonishment have found images of people in the eyes of the Virgin Mary in the image of Guadalupe. These images of people appear in her eyes just as they would appear in the reflections of living eyes. The people seen in her eyes are the bishop of Mexico City and the other people who were there when the image of the Virgin Mary first appeared in their presence in 1531.
In 1531 an Aztec indian, Juan Diego, saw and spoke with the Virgin Mary on a hill near Mexico City. When he went to the bishop of Mexico City to tell of this, the bishop asked for evidence of his story. After Juan Diego went back to where the Virgin Mary was appearing, she told him to pick flowers in that place, impossibly there in the winter. Then he wrapped some of the flowers before himself in his own rough garment. He went back to the bishop, and when he opened his garment, the flowers fell out and an image of the Virgin Mary miraculously appeared on his garment, to the astonishment and great reverence of the bishop and the others there. This image of Mary now is kept in a great church in Mexico City, at the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world.
