How many “news” stories run something like:
“[singer/actor/famous for no good reason] stirred controversy with [album cover or lyrics/public comments or outrageous behavior/sex life]”

or

[X Corp] today announced [new/innovative] [product/service] that will revolutionise the [whatever] industry.

I bring this up due to Amazon’s announcement of product delivery via drone. All the coverage I’ve seen are basically repeats of Amazon’s press release. No analysis of how idiotic the idea is until four or five paragraphs in. Likewise Amazon saying the service won’t be available until 2015 and maybe not even then – 2015 is the FAA’s target date for coming up with rules for commercial drones.

My opinion is that whether this can be achieved (I believe so) or not, it is healthy that we are actually discussing on a new idea.

For instance, Apple had ran out of new ideas a few years ago, yet they make news everyday for every small change they make on their ‘beautifully unapologetically plastic’ design.

I believe many good things may come out of this. Maybe not exactly what Amazon is portraying on their ‘ads’, but service delivery in many fields could be greatly improved with the use of octocopters. Its food for thought and I have been enjoying the debate it triggered.

I so understand what you are talking about!! I cant count the number of times Ive seen product endorsements on what is supposed to the news, plus, if you notice nowadays NEVER will an anchor make a negative comment about ANY company, I guess this is due to news media being corporate owned versus the past, when they were not.

Concerning the flying delivery drone from Amazon, Its a good idea, but I doubt it would work on a larger scale, what is to stop some computer hacker to hi-jack the drone and take it somewhere else, product included, or someone steals the drone itself! I could see this happening in certain areas.

The old school newscasters would be ashamed of what passes for news nowadays.

What is really annoying is hearing the same thing on every broadcast. It is as if we live in a very small world that concentrates mainly on small things, not in a big world with many countries, cultures, and things happening.

Oh, and we are all supposed to “weigh in” with our thoughts by going to the news outlet’s webpage, facebook page, or sending a tweet!
