I just received my first newsletter from Mother Maria and the nuns at Arlington, TX (formerly Ft. Worth). I was pleased to hear that they had a Clothing Day on August 30th, 2008 for a new novice, Sr. Elizabeth Mary of the Heart of Jesus! Isn’t that a beautiful title? They also broke ground for their additions to the monastery AND celebrated the 50th Jubilee of their Order! They could always use donations. If you visit their order’s website, there is a link on there that will allow you to make a donation using PayPal, or you can send a check to the address on the website.

This order is flourishing! Let’s pray for them as they complete the new renovations, and also for the novice, Sr. Elizabeth Mary!

I am continuing to discern with this order even though I think I might be called to the Franciscans. Mother Maria has been nothing but helpful, and this order has remained traditional in spite of the 1991 Constitutions that they follow. Unfortunately, I have not yet met them in person, but I have already been invited, so please pray that I can get there when the Lord wills it! God bless you all!

You shouldn’t be too caught up about which Constitution is followed. The nuns in Arlington are a prime example why. They do not seem less traditional than the nuns in Dallas, around the corner from them, which follow the 1990 Constitution. You should consider each OCD community by more than which Constitution it follows.

:blessyou:

Augustine, I promise that is not the sole reason for my wanting to visit this community. It was just an observation. I read all the information that they sent me, and felt drawn to them. I only go by what my heart says 😃

There are actually some significant differences between the two however, despite appearances - and not to say that one is better than the other, but different.

One of them would be, the nuns in Arlington are part of the St. Teresa Association, which does have meetings outside the enclosure (like once every three years I think) The Dallas nuns recently joined the St. Joseph Association, but they do not have meetings.

Just thought I’d point that out. They both look like beautiful communities. 👍

P.S. Also, this has nothing to do with being tradtional, but just a difference in Carmels in the US - the Dallas Carmel came from the Mexican line of foundations (actually they are a relocated Carmel from Mexico, that had to leave during the persecutions there) the Arlington Carmel is from the French line of foundations. Their veils are slightly different, among other differences. Just something interesting I thought I’d post. 😉
