**We wish to clarify (or refine, if you wish) the rules for the Catholic News sub-forum:

**
DO
  • The opening post MUST reference an article from a legitimate news source.
  • The title of the thread should be the same as the title of the news article. This helps users find the article and lessens the chance of duplicate threads.
  • Avoid quoting from copyrighted works. Instead, paraphrase what is said and provide a link. If you do quote, limit it to a “fair use” excerpt (one to three paragraphs).
  • Provide a link to a publicly-available article so that readers can get more information.
**DON’T
**
  • No blogs.
  • No articles that make personal attacks or are in other ways inappropriate for the CA forums.
Threads that do not comply with this will be closed and/or moved.

I would like to propose a few suggestions if I may:
  1. It should be made clear that Youtube itself is NOT a news source in the way that Fox or CNN is. They may carry Fox or CNN news but that doesn’t make Youtube a news source and as such it should not fall in news.
  2. Regarding the title rule can be a problem. Consider this thread:
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=388500

The title of the thread is not what is shown on Youtube. However even if Youtube showed that title, its incorrect.

I hope that these responses are met positively.

Unfortunately many would debate you on this view… In fact we could probably add Jerry Springer, The Onion, Daily News asw ell as many others. News today does not seem to have much integrity and maybe they all just cater to the ratings.

When starting a new thread in a In the News subforum, please start it with a news article from a reputable news outlet.

Op-Eds, blog postings and commentary are acceptable if they contain links to hard news stories or press releases. However, they must otherwise adhere to CAF rules on charity.

Avoid YouTube or other video links as news articles unless they are a full news report or a full speech from a first source.

Thank you for your cooperation.
