Also a good link from within the website detailing the CrMS (Creighton Method) which is actually a modified / standardized version of Billings.

Note that one of the advantages is in the ability to use it even with irregular / breast feeding / post pardum cycles b/c it is a day by day observation and distinction and not based on the regularity of the cycle. I will say from experience (I have some irregularities) that I think that women with more regular cycles still find it easier than those with irregular cycles to use. But in my opinion it is the most effective at dealing with the irregularities, also the most effective at training the couples in how to read these irregularities.
I believe it is also the only NFP method that has also been created to be used as a diagnostic tool. In other words, your own irregular cycle tells them what the problem is, it can then be treated, and you’re then on your way to a significantly more regular cycle and far more ease of use. When I started with it I had quite a few issues that made it more difficult to use (and for my husband and I to trust the system). But if you’re willing to keep up the disciplined charting (and the instructors even “quiz” you on this at your sessions, not in a bad way, just in a way to give you an idea of how reliable your chart is – so being honest and saying, “I didn’t keep up with it all that well this month” is a good thing), as we were, they can p(name removed by moderator)oint problems within months and treat them.

One more thing, and then I’ll be quiet, I promise! Learning how to chart in CrMS is complicated at first, because it is so detailed, but it was actually helpful in that it was such a project for us, to master the charting and observing and labeling, that we wanted to avoid having sex not to avoid a pregnancy, but to be sure that in the first month or two we really knew what was going on in my body. It’s actually one of the rules for beginning users that you wait post peak (until after you know you’ve ovulated) and then only use every other day for intercourse. In other words, (sorry to be graphic), semen can hang around and mix with cervical mucus and make things a little harder to recognize at first (they teach you how to deal with this too, don’t worry). But we wanted to make sure we were reading things right, so our focus in not having sex wasn’t so much will power against our urges as it was a positive focus in learning about my body and, for a month at least, it would impede that positive focus. Does that make any sense or am I talking waaaaayyyyyy too much here?

I firmly believe that there is no such thing as talking too much on this subject. 👍 Until every woman on God’s green Earth understands her fertility, I for one, will keep talking…(and talking, and talking, and talking.) 😉

Abraham, I hope you and your wife are doing better and the prayers are helping her find some peace. Still praying for you both!

I could too, I think it’s fascinating!

I am resurrecting this thread from a year ago to post an update on where we’re at. Tammy’s health improved quite a bit, and our relationship went through major trauma, Retrouvaille weekend, reconciliation during phase two… to make a long story short, at the doctor’s office on Friday, Tammy heard the heartbeat of baby number 8. Our first four children consume all of our patience and resources, our next three are praying for us in heaven, and number 8 hasn’t decided yet whether to live or die.

We are happy and afraid at the same time. Our family is polite but still doesn’t share our values. When we told her mother, she said “I thought you said you weren’t going to have any more?” And my Grandmother said, “I know what the Catholic Church teaches, but I also think God gave us some common sense”. So that’s why I’m here asking for your prayers again. Thank you.

“Living might mean taking chances, but they’re worth taking
Lovin’ might be a mistake, but it’s worth making…
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance”
