I am in chapter 5 of reading ******The Art of Natural Family Planning ****** and the book suggest you use a basil body thermometer. Instead, can you use an ear thermometer to take your temperature? We dont have a basil body thermometer and if we needed one, what would the cost be? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank You!

Nope, you need a basal body thermometer for NFP. Ear thermometers are only accurate to within a degree, not nearly accurate enough to track the temperature changes you are trying to capture. You can find an adequate thermometer for about 10 dollars.

No.

You must use a basal thermometer. They are a few dollars at Walgreens and other pharmacies.

Ear thermometers are just not accurate.

I think they are only good for finding an obvious fever in kiddos…but you could do that just by looking at them and physically touching them.

You have to use a BBT thermometer because even a change of a few degrees can be significant. They aren’t that expensive. I got the Target brand BBT for something like $6. It works great and I’ve had it for a few years now.

Get a BBT and keep it right next to your bed. Take your temp at the same time and in the same place under your tongue.

Alright, thanks all for your help and the good information. This is actually for my wife. I am reading the book hoping she jumps on board with NFP, please say a prayer.

I think I paid 10 bucks for ours. Just make sure to change the batteries when it seems to be off, or every year (I just do it then, regardless). It’s the same as the oral/rectal thermometer, but it’s more accurate to a degree than the non-basal ones are.

After seeing big artificial contraception ads at Walgreens I decided to pick one up for $10.99 at CVS. Thanks all.

quick question,in the book Art of Natural Family Planning says that the chart is copywrited. Does that mean I cannot make 1 copy of the chart at my work to start and then purchase a booklet of charts? How do you get your charts?

You can get free charts at the homepage of www.NFPandmore.org. Just scroll down and you will see it below the NFPI manual. You can record temps and all the fertility signs on this chart and it is similar to the CCL chart.

Great help, thank you so much and in the knick of time.

Good news, my wife decided she will see what NFP is all about. She took her first temperature this morning 👍

You might also be interested in the NFP International manual, Natural Family Planning: The Complete Approach at www.nfpandmore.org. Suggested donation for the download is $10. It is free for the truly poor. The manual covers all the fertility signs and rules plus exclusive and ecological breastfeeding. Emphasis is also on Church teaching. It is an easy read with a simple question and answer format. The founders of NFP International were also the founders of CCL. We continue to teach the classic content of the Triple Strand that we taught for our 32 years with CCL.
