Kendy,
You are too funny. I like your humor. I can relate because I don’t want 8 kids either. (But what does God want is the question) I struggle with the concept of NFP also. At cursillo I walked away with “Let go and let God.” I have done that with many aspects of my life except my fertility. That’s one aspect I like to control. I didn’t know how grave a sin it is to use ABC. DH and I are practicing NFP right now but it doesn’t matter right now because we are ok with having another child right now.
My parents practiced NFP. We are a total of 4 children. My mom did have a tubal at the age of 42 after giving birth to my sister. Our priest at the time told her that she had done her duty and that it would be ok to get a tubal. She carried the guilt of having a tubal for many years.
We took a family picture the other day with my parents, us 4 children and their 5 grandchildren. (The family farm dog is even in it. She’s part of the family too!) It’s really remarkable when I look at the picture and think that they(my parents) and God are responsible for all of us. It’s awesome! The family will continue to grow.
My DH only has one sister. He wishes his parents would have had more, so that he could have more siblings. His mom had a tubal after he was born.
There is a family who comes to church. It’s pretty remarkable when you see the parents and their 5 grown children along with their own families walk into church. My husband always comments on how nice big families are.
It is difficult to let go and let God. I pray for the strength to let go and let God with my fertilty.
