Hello,
On the recommendation of someone on here, I got a Lady Comp fertility monitor. I am new to NFP, and I wanted something that would do all the thinking for me. We have five kids, ranging from 1-11, and are avoiding pregnancy. So I read that I would get a lot of red days at first, but it’s been about three months now and I am still getting a lot of red days. The first month I got 12 red and 1 yellow, second month I got 12 red and 3 yellow and this month I have 13 red so far and a yellow toward the beginning of my cycle, and although it is now predicting greens, once it reads my temp it gives me reds. It also seems to be changing its mind as to when I’m ovulating. I’ll get the flashing light one day, and after reading more temps, the light will go away and appear on a different day. Is this normal for the Lady Comp? Can I expect this going into the future? I do have hypothyroidism which is controlled by medication, and thought maybe that might affect it? Thanks!

I’ve never used lady comp, but did use the clear blue easy fertility monitor. It’s not unheard of to have two weeks of abstaining. We had that problem too. It could be your thyroid issue, but some of us just have more fertile days than others. I don’t know exactly why, it can really stink when you are having to avoid for a while. Other ladies might have more knowledge of exactly why this occurs, but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone or abnormal. 🙂

I have been using the lady comp for about 4 years now…keep in mind you are only on ‘cycle 3’. It is going to take 8-9 months or so for it to start to learn your trends. I, too, was curious about this in the beginning, but we got more green days as time went on . Stick with it!!!

We use ladycomp.

Your ladycomp is behaving correctly. The day it flashes red is simply a prediction. After you ovulate (temp rises), the ladycomp now has the precise day of ovulation and that red flashing light changes. It is normal to have 13 red lights after 3 months of use. Don’t freak out. It’s working well. In the manual, or on their website, it talks about medication. It says that some medication, as side effect, can change your body temperature just like drinks with alcohol.

Also, remember that it requires, at least, 3 hours of constant sleep without getting up just before taking your temperature. And also, it is recommended to take the temperature under the tongue on the same side always (right or left).

You are still pretty early in the readings. With more history your lady comp should narrow things down more. But not too much more. That many red days is common. We loved ours but it is pretty conservative in general and even more so when it’s learning your cycles. I don’t know much about the hypothyroidism so I’m not sure how it could affect it. I would think as long as your cycles are regular and your meds don’t affect temps then you would be ok.

One of the reasons I recommend lady comp is because it is generally conservative for reliability. It was by far the best and most accurate when we were trying to abstain.

The only drawback we had was the thermometer emitting a shock every morning. We ordered a replacement and it works fine as far as I know.

Hi! Welcome to the club! It’s pretty much the same with us: two to three weeks of abstinence per month to be on the safe side because of my wife’s extremely irregular cycles.

We use Billings, and were thinking of investing in a fertility monitor once. Reading through the Amazon reviews though, it seemed like the monitors won’t really give a lot of extra safe days over Billings or Sympto-thermal if the user has irregular cycles.

We did end up investing in the Ova-tel saliva monitor because it was a whole lot cheaper. Problem was it didn’t work for us. Apparently, according to the instruction manual and the product website, my wife has a hormonal imbalance which caused the product not working.

Anyway, good luck with your monitor! Hopefully things get better as you use it more:)

Yes, ladycomp works even for women with irregular cycles, and those with.polycystic ovarian syndrome.

If your wife has hormonal issues, the fertility monitors won’t work right. I know from experience. :sad_yes:

Billings does require a TON of abstaining if your cycles aren’t textbook. I know that from experience too. :o
