NFP Let's talk Lady Comp

Okay, this is an extension of a previous thread started by me . . . Several people brought up the Lady Comp as a tool they use with NFP. I find it very interesting, though quite expensive! Here are some questions that linger for me:

Is there a computer program or app that could do the same thing? If the Lady Comp’s findings are based solely on temps and analysis of previous temps, it seems like there must be a program or app somewhere that could do the same thing for free or quite cheaply–just take temp daily with a Basal thermometer and then enter into the program. Does something like this exist?

I would feel a loss of control if I didn’t also have a paper chart to fret over each month. Staring at the data, checking, double checking, triple checking . . . If you use the Lady Comp or if you see yourself using it in the future, do you think it would be unnerving not to have the data in front of you?

Overall, this seems like a genius invention. I’d love to hear from happy users. And I’d love to hear from people like me who are considering it. The price is really off putting, but the reassurance this machine could bring is really something to consider.
 
One more thing, to those who use the Lady Comp, does it work if you have long cycles?
 
I’ve found a few NFP apps on the Android and Apple App Stores. I find though, that nothing beats charting it myself. It’s easier, for me at least, to have a hard copy. None of the NFP apps that are worth anything are free that I’ve seen. The best I’ve found are month long free trials.

But yeah, as I said, I prefer my binder.
 
Try fertilityfriend.com for charting. The basic membership is free, and it is very user friendly. Also, unlike ladycomp, you can chart with any combination of sympto-thermal clues(e.g., bbt, cm, lmp, cervical characteristics), as well as (name removed by moderator)ut other pertinent data (menses, spotting, ovulation kit tests, personal notes, etc.), so it’s pretty comprehensive. The VIP membership is nice, but not necessary, imho. They give you the VIP membership free for the first little while anyhow, so you can judge for yourself. ETA: You can also print/download your chart as a pdf file each month.
 
So does the fertility friend do the calculating for you? I am guessing you enter the data and it tells you your phases as you go?
 
I second fertilityfriend.com. I’ve been using it for over 10 years and love the information it provides. The site has a wealth of information about fertility and your cycle. I’m not familiar with Lady Comp, so I can’t compare, but fertilityfriend shows you your chart with whatever symptoms/signs/notes you wish to (name removed by moderator)ut. It also does a good job of predicting your phases.

I’m sure there’s probably some online chart or something, but the cool thing about the LC is that it not only charts for you, but it actually TELLS you when you are and are not fertile. I don’t think any free comp program or app does the same…

And I have successfully used LC to avoid for 3 years.

my cycles are 32 days.

If you enter the data, the calendar will give a prediction on which days you are likely expected to be: fertile, ovulating, menstruating, etc, but if you want to understand the phases, and understand how to track ovulation, you can do that too. They have instructionals that will help with understanding how to interpret charting. The lady comp has been beneficial for us. Though expensive, we did purchase a refurbished one relatively cheap. It is a little odd having a computer tell you when you can have sex.😉 But we moved away from lady comp once we felt more comfortable interpreting by ourselves. On a mechanical note. The thermometer took to shocking my wife. As far as feeling confident in the readings I give it a huge thumbs up.
 
There are several NFP apps on Android and iPhone that are cheap/free. I’ve just started using OvuView for Android. It takes into consideration temperature, cervix, mucus, and a slew of other symptoms (mood, weight, etc).
