I’ve been taking my temperature at about 6:30 am for most of my NFP- charting life. After my last baby and my DH’s job change, I’m waking up later (really!), more like 7:30 am.

Should my baseline temperatures be 2/10ths of a degree higher than when I took them at 6:30 or does my body readjust so that they should be about the same as they were when I took them earlier?

Thanks for your help!!

From what I recall of NFP (it’s been awhile since I’ve had to use anything besides breastfeeding for spacing children), I would expect your temps to raise slightly, since you’re waking later.

It shouldn’t have an effect on your charting at all, though, as long as you wake up at the same time throughout your cycle. It’s not the specific individual temps that we’re looking at, it’s the general pattern and the full thermal shift that’s important.

If your body is readjusting, and you have the same general temp as you had before, there’s nothing wrong with that. Are you worried? Are your temps staying the same, or did they raise slightly? Either way, I think you’re fine. 🙂

I agree…the later you wake, generally the higher (slightly) the temp. As long as you wake and take the temps at a consistent time, you’re good to go!

Thanks!

I’m not worried about charting- everything looks ok, I’m ovulating and all that, but I noticed that both my pre-ovulation and post-ovulation temperatures are pretty much what they were back when I was waking at 6:30. More my curiosity than anything else- if I correct for the later waking time, are my temps really lower than they were a couple of years ago?

I know, I know, it doesn’t matter. Just want to know!
