Although I’ve been lurking for quite a while, this is my first post on CAF. Yay! 👋

Ok, now to the question. My husband and I are semi-officially TTC. Last night we both had a feeling that I would have a temperature shift this morning, but we were tired and chose to go to sleep without making love. Sure enough, I had a temp shift this morning. Have we missed our window to conceive? I think I remember reading something about if you wait until you see a temperature shift to have sex, it’s too late.

My cycles have been freakishly long lately (40-day typical cycle until last cycle which was 60-days, and I’m on day 54 today), so the thought of waiting two months until I might be fertile again drives me nuts!

Any advice?

Welcome irismac,

Was your thermal shift higher than the last six by at least two-tenths of degree? Have you reached Peak Day? If not, then it is possible it’s not too late to keep trying. You should consider yourself fertile until ALL signs indicate that you are not, then the rest is in the Lord’s hands.

A mature egg can live a maximum 24 hours, so more thank likely, you did miss the window. However, sometime a woman can ovulate twice within the same 24 hours after the first egg was releases. Does that make sense? That’s why if you are TTA, you are supposed to wait until the night of the 3rd day of high temps in order to call it a thermal shift.

Have you addressed your long cycles? They can be corrected by changing your diet, losing weight, correcting hormones…etc, etc.

Not completely too late if you went ahead and tried immediately after noting the temp shift (and perhaps trying this evening), but then you should have been trying every ~36-48 hours from when you fist started noting other fertile symptoms so that you would have missed only your “last chance” this cycle at most.

Thank you all for the replies! I know we’ve missed our window by now, but I guess it just wasn’t our time.

I’ve been charting for a little over a year, since I went off of hormonal birth control. I haven’t really had much luck with either the cervical position or fluid signs, so I’ve been sticking with temps. Granted, I haven’t really been consistant with checking the other two signs. This cycle I’ve been pretty good about it, but I haven’t noticed any fertile sign pattern with either. I have never figured out when a “Peak Day” is, since I don’t notice a mucus patch like I see other people referencing.

StatusRose - I haven’t really addressed the long cycles. I had just figured that I had longer than normal cycles, until the 60-day one last time. It could be weight gain. I’ve always been overweight, but I’ve put on an additional 20 pounds in the last 18 months since our wedding, 10 of those in the last 6 months.

Peak Day is the last day of fertile cervical mucus. My wife also has a difficult time checking it, you should see a pattern of feeling ‘wetness’ followed by ‘dry’ or tacky mucus.

It usually goes something like this, me: is is tacky yet? Her: I don’t know. Me: Are you wet?. Her: no. Me: then you must be tacky. 👍
