NFP question

My wife and I are using NFP to avoid pregnancy (still somewhat new at it) and I have a weird question.
We are at a point where we need the assistance of, ahem, lubricant. It’s presumed we can’t use one that contains spermicide. But it looks like the only other ones out there are very sperm-friendly.

Jeepers – names like PreSeed and ConceiveEase! Do we really have to use those? Isn’t there anything that’s just plain “sperm neutral”?

I suppose some might say that the anti-sperm gels can be used, and while the intent is not to kill the sperm, that would be an allowable “double effect.” But we want to do what is morally right, of course.
 
I recommend coconut oil…it’s bigger, cheaper, and more conspicuous than those found in the “family planning” section. Works well.
 
Many lubricants available (for example, K-Y) are not spermicidal at all. However, what they do, is essentially mimic the non-peak type mucus, thus rendering it difficult or impossible for sperm to travel through it.

My wife and I asked this question to our NFP practitioner, and she suggested vegetable oil, as it does not adversely effect the sperm at all. However… in practice, we’ve found it’s not particularly effective at lubricating. We used K-Y after we got married, but found that after about 2 or 3 weeks, it became unnecessary.
 
Any normal lubricant that doesn’t contain spermicide is fine. It doesn’t have to be “sperm friendly”- no need to overthink this. Plenty of women get pregnant while using lubricants- not that this is a concern if you’re charting carefully anyway, but my point is unless there is some kind of fertility issue, using a normal lubricant isn’t likely to hinder that.

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that PreSeed is “sperm neutral.” It simply doesn’t present an adverse environment for sperm, as other lubricants might. My wife and I use it, even though we are using NFP to avoid pregnancy, and it hasn’t caused any miraculous conceptions during my wife’s infertile times. 🙂
 
After you start getting a little bit more comfortable with each other…you may not even need to use lubricant.

I third the use of coconut oil.

I would also recommend that if you get a regular lubricant like K-Y or astroglide…find something that is silicon based.
It doesn’t tend to get sticky. It works very well.

I haven’t used Pre-Seed…but I’ve heard good stuff about it.

We used a silicon based K-Y when we first got married. We don’t use it anymore because we don’t need to.
 
I have heard lots of good things about coconut oil.

In fact, I am looking for some to try. 😊 We aren’t new at it, rather we are old at it. And as a woman ages, she loses some of that, ahem, natural lubricant.
