So I have been tracking my cycles and I have been noticing that I begin to have EWCM on CD 22 that lasts right up until my next period. Does this signify that I’m ovulating right before my menstrual period? Does this mean I have a very short luteal phase? Peak day is usually considered to be the last day of EWCM, correct? If this is true, then my peak day is one day before my period. Usually around the peak day is when you ovulate.

Does anyone have similar issues or had these same issues in the past?

I would think that would be biologically impossible. A more likely explaination is that your a simply an extra mucus-y person? Maybe your mucus-producing membranes are extra sensitive to the lingering progesterone? If you don’t have dire reasons to avoid right now, you might consider getting alternate instructions. You might be looking for a sudden change in mucus, rather than a complete absence of mucus.

PS- Is it possible you are confusing seminal fluid for clear mucus?

No, this EWCM that I have is very globby and stretchy with streaks of creamy-white mucus( sorry if too much info). Seminal fluid becomes watery. Besides, we avoid intimacy three days before I usually begin having this EWCM and we avoid intimacy for the remainder of my cycle. So it can’t be seminal fluid.

You might want to check with your doctor. It’s possible that you have a hormonal imbalance and/or are having anovulatory cycles. You might also want to use ovulation tests. That way you can get an idea of when your peak really is.

You may want to also track your temperature if you aren’t doing that. It may give you more of an indication of when ovulation is occurring.

This is the time when you take your charts to your instructor.

I’m such a restless sleeper that my tempts are so radical and don’t tell me anything. That’s why I have been relying on tracking my mucus only. It’s just so weird that I have an extremely long phase 1 and then have a somewhat long phase 2 and have no phase 3 as phase 2 transitions right into phase 1.

Yes, I will have to give ovulation tests a try. I’m just a little concerned about these because they know to not be very accurate, especially for some women. My NFP instructor, who I had two years ago, had told me to not rely too much on them if I was to use them. It also can be kind of costly.

Yes, I’ll have to touch base with my old instructor when I find the time.

I heard that if you have a really short luteal phase that if you do conceive the pregnancy can result in a miscarriage and you might mistake this miscarriage as simply being your period without ever knowing you were pregnant. This is kind of worrisome.

P.S. I’m TTA not TTC

One possibility might be that you have a mild bacterial or yeast infection. Those tend to produce more discharge so I would get that checked out. My daughter was having a lot of discharge and it was found to be a yeast infection. She didn’t have much itching with it as one usually would, so it wasn’t thought to be that at first.

Have you seen your NFP instructor since your observations have changed? She may have some ideas for you to try.

Temperature tracking didn’t work for my wife either, for some reason. Her temperatures were all over the place, with no discernible pattern. I would suggest consulting with a doctor who is trained in the Creighton Model of NFP and Napro Technology. You can find one at www.fertilitycare.org. You could also try the Marquette Method of NFP, which uses a fertility monitor (that measures daily hormone levels) in addition to checking mucus signs.

I’m pretty sure I don’t have a yeast infection. I have no itching or foul smelling mucus. My mucus is also not chunky looking. I’m just concerned as to why I’m having EWCM right up until my period.

That is good. You can find a Creighton practitioner online who will consult via Skype if needed!

Ok I was wondering because Creighton doesn’t use that terminology, Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 is sympto-thermal terminology.

You should definitely share your charts with your instructor and also ask about yellow stickers (essential sameness).

Although, my problem isn’t that I have the same type of mucus constantly. After my menses I have two dry days, then I have some tacky glue-like mucus for a bit, then it gets very creamy, then I get EWCM on CD 22 or CD 23 that lasts right up till my period. It’s like my peak day comes the day before my period. I’m guessing I must ovulate right before my period or a few days before which means I must have an extremely short luteal phase.

That might indicate low progesterone.
Talk to your instructor and a doctor.

They can’t tell you whether you did ovulate for sure, but if you use them for a few months and find that your period comes almost exactly the same number of days after you get a peak every time, that’s a good thing. You don’t need to rely on them but can still use them as a cross-check for more information. I’ve gotten some cheap ones for 35 cents each on Amazon, and they work fine.

I think it’s pretty near impossible to have a one day luteal phase, unless there is a significant problem.
