NFP is not birth control. It’s simply being aware of your body’s cycles. I also, if I hadn’t been using NFP, would not have known about my low progesterone levels. NFP is a way of reading your body’s own language, and the clues it gives as to what is going on, not only with your fertility, but also with your gynecological health!

And I plan to teach my daughter it as soon as she has cycles. Every woman should know as much as she can about her own body.

I am currently trying, hoping, praying, waiting to get pregnant again. I am still using NFP and I will continue to use it even if I do get pregnant.

YES!

I’m not married, but I do chart- more for the gynecological health, and to be a good example to my duaghter as she matures. 🙂

Great post!

Hi Malia,
In answer to some of your questions:
What does “IF” mean?
IF means infertility, sorry.

Do you have spotting at the end of your period? If so, is it brown? Brown spotting at the end can indicate low progesterone.
By “end of your period” do you mean at the end of the menstrual bleeding, or then end of the cycle before new menstrual bleeding begins?

The end of your period is the last days of bleeding. Day one is the beginning of a new cycle and the first day of bleeding.

Premenstraul spotting can also be a sign of problems.
Any type of spotting? Even right before menstruation begins?

Yes, some spotting right before menstruation can be problematic according to Dr. Hilgers.

I think teh ideal luteal phase is 13 or 14 days. I have also heard that large doses of vitamin B6 (try 500 mg of SLOW RELEASE vitamin B6. You can buy this from Kubat Pharmacy in Omaha, NE. They have a website). Progesterone can also help the luteal phase.

I’ve taken it every day since so I’ll let everyone know what happens next weekend (monthly friend is due in another week if I keep my new 12-day luteal phase). Maybe I’ll get another day.
Update: According to my chart, I did indeed gain another day and am up to 13 days in my luteal phase, so I’m thinking the daily B6 is a good thing. Still no pregnancy, though. I’m charting for two more months and then going in to see the docs. We’re lucky enough to have two real Catholic (not in name only) medical centers within a 45 min. drive from our home, and hopefully they’ll be able to help. I’m sure they’ll be willing. 🙂

This is great news Jen! Congratulations on your extended LP. I have a luteal phase defect too (11 days) but my hormones are still too low to sustain a pregnancy. B6 hasn’t helped me thus far. This cycle, the doctor is giving me 4 injections of HCG- the pregnancy hormone- during the luteal phase to try to get more progesterone/estrogen produced. I wish you the best of luck and will keep you in my prayers for a quick conception and a healthy and happy 9 months.
