Don’t know how to answer, we’ve used Creighton for 3 years, but to try to achieve pregnancy, which we finally did 🙂 . I’m only 5mo postpartum now, and we have thus-far avoided pg with it, so I can heal from my c-sec. Of course, I’m also doing ecological breastfeeding, which lowers fertility (as if I really need help in that dept:rolleyes: ).

NFP = 14 years
MF = 0

And we have had times when we were not “strict” with the rules 😉

Reported so far, 3.6% typical use failure rate, 0% perfect use failure rate.

Not very consistent with this chart:rolleyes: :
healthcenter.vt.edu/Resources/shc-online-docs/information-sheets/slide-contra-fail-rate-04-2003.pdf That is nowhere near correct. A quarter of NFP practicing couples conceive while TTA? You’ve got to be joking!
My guess is they’re basing their “Fertility Awareness” statistics on the rhythm method. :rolleyes: “fertility awareness” could mean anything…

NFP couples are much more likely to decide, tonight, let’s just see what happens, because they are open to life. It’s not a failure and shouldn’t be counted as such.

Creighton is clear that if you ignore signs, or if you go when you are fertile, or when you are in doubt, then you have abandoned the method for trying to avoid pregnancy. Anyone’s admission to questioning the signs or ignoring them means that the method actually worked the way it was supposed to. It cannot be counted as a method failure.

I’m not trying to split hairs, but I think that even amoung us who all seem to be 100% for NFP, its important to watch our terms and semantics. I trully believe that this is the actual issue that keeps some couples from trusting NFP…the fact that people “conceive a child while using NFP” is just so vague and therefore so many people write NFP off as something that doesn’t work when actuality it works almost exactly as it should.

(exceptions of course)

NFP-8 MF-1

Our one “accident” was completely my fault. I had unusual signs one month and decided to ignore it.

That pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. I think my hormones must have been “off.”

Very sad. I wish I had:( that baby.
This would not be a method failure, this would be human error. I’m very sorry for your loss.😦

Method Failure (MF) means you followed all the rules and got pregnant anyway.
If you had unusual symptoms and ignored them or you counted the days wrong that is human error not method failure.

I love research studies!!! (It’s the sociologist in me. 😃 ) Here’s my info:

NFP-4, MF-0

We achieved 2 pregnancies with the help of NFP, so I guess that would be part of a “Method Success” rate. 🙂

Edit: We only used NFP for avoiding pregnancy for 12 months, and now we use Ecological Breastfeeding to space births. The only reason I still take temps and mucus observations is to estimate due dates.

Been using NFP

5 years

MF

0

we are on our 3rd pregnancy since using NFP. Actually, 1 child out of the 3 was not “planned” per say. However we weren’t abstaining either, so really we put it in God’s hands that time.

NFP = 4
MF = 1

Genuine phase III failure…waited approx 7 days after ovulation.

As of PenitentMan’s post:
177 years of NFP
1 genuine method-failure (will count as perfect use)
5 user errors (will count along with method failure as typical use)
23 reported method successes

That results in a perfect use pregnancy rate of .56%, and a typical use pregnancy rate of 3.39%.

NFP - 5 years
MF - 1
MS - 1

Although, our MF baby should really be placed in the absolute miracle category. She was conceived the week before my MIL died and we were travelling everywhere. Plus, no signs of fertility whatsoever. God is so good! 👍

NFP- 8 years
MF - 1

As we got to know our “method failure” we realized she was just the biggest and best surprise God could provide.

I was using NFP to prevent and on the 4th month I conceived but she has been such a gift to our marriage. We had relations on CD 11 and 12 so its not really NFP failure…just God working his way!!!

Currently at 1.5 perfect use pregnancy rate and 2.5 typical use failure rate.

Didn’t count puppy love’s as a user error because it sounds like it wasn’t misinterpretation, but outright ‘out the window’ which means NFP was working the way it was supposed to.
