Wow. Okay, I will call my NFP only GYN and let her know that agapewolf told me that the pills she gave me are bad for me. And that she needs to come up with something different.

You will tell me what I should tell her to do, right?

How about again, I state

*she might be given pills, like the ones in “The Pill.” *
then she might be given pills (just like the ones in a “The Pill”)

My pills, although just like the ones in a pack of ABC, do not come in a pack. Nor do I take them for 21 or 28 days.

But hey, if you say they are bad for me and you are learning all about it, I am sure you know more than a Catholic NFP only medical doctor.
No need to be snarky.

No NFP only doctor would prescribe the pill, or any artificial hormone.

If you are talking about prometrium…you are being purposely obtuse by stating they are “like the ones int he pill” … because they are NOTHING like the ones in the pill.

How bout I show you the loooong list of doctors that would never prescribe anything “like” the pill . Or all the creighton teachers.

Its basic science. The pill…or anything “like” the pill…does not regulate the cycle, it shuts it down.

I am sick and tired of everyone pretending to be a medical expert.

So one of us, me or my doctor, is what? Not telling the truth?

Provera, the same thing that is found in the “The Pill.”

Again, so you feel that my doctor is either not telling the truth about being NFP only, or that I am not telling the truth.

Oh, wow. My doctor is listed here. How can that be???

I’m going to assume you misread what she said because your not making any sense. Believe it or not yes, Catholic doctors will prescribe hormone treatments if you have a deficiency. Theres a deficiency, so you take some more of the hormone to give you the right levels so your cycle works properly. Irregular cycles are a sign of either a hormone imbalance or a nutritional gap.

The bc pill works by giving you so much of the hormones that your body thinks its pregnant and stops cycling.

I am sick and tired of everyone pretending to be a medical expert.??
I was not pretending to be a medical expert. I corrected your language that “the pill” regulates the cycle. There is nothing high science about it if you simply read the insert and how it works.

What you said was misleading. I corrected it. That simple. You still didn’t need to be snarky.

No, I didn’t misread it, and I am making sense.

Prometrium, is a natural progesterone that helps the body produce more of its own. This is completely and utterly the OPPOSITE of what progestin does. Progestin is a synthetic progesterone that puts chemicals into the body and shuts down the system that is already in place.

Irregular cycles can be a sign of problems, but its also in the God given design to have delayed ovulation due to stress. That is a HEALTHY reaction.

If its happening repeatedly that is probably a sign of something else besides stress. Progestin does not “shut down the system” it makes your body think its pregnant. Normal progesterone does the exact same thing when your actually pregnant. I do not know why a doctor might prescribe progestin as opposed to prometrium to fix a deficiency of progesterone but I’m sure there is a good reason. I’m not a doctor and neither are you so stop guessing.

Pretty sure we’ve strayed far from both the topic and the whole “don’t give medical advice” thing.

Not to get bogged down in the medical debate at all, but that’s pretty much an illogical statement. You’re arguing that the reproductive system is shuttered when a woman is pregnant. That makes no sense whatsoever.

You can trick the body into doing a lot of things for good ends (adult stem cell therapy for instance) and I daresay a doctor knows far more than some dude studying to teach a method of NFP.

I am female, thank you.

What I am saying IS what doctors are saying. and I never said the reproductive system is “shuttered” when a woman is pregnant.

To be clear, this all began when there was misleading advice saying that “medicine like the pill” can help regulate the cycle.

This is basic science that has repeated ad nausium around here that this isn’t true, and I was correcting it. That simple.

As I have said, my doctor is listed at One More Soul. She is an NFP only GYN. She gave me the pills. She did the testing. She did the D&C. SHE knows what is going on. I listen to her, not some anonymous poster on a forum.

Back to the topic at hand

Original Poster

So you are okay with abstaining for years, even forever? You are simply looking for help how to do that?

It sounded like they have some success with NFP and are not permanently abstaining. He wants to know the trick to abstaining though. My answer would be daily communion and a rich prayer life with your spouse.

You were the one who turned this personal. I never made a comment about you personally or what you are on. I never suggested anything about your personal health or gave you advice.

I was simply talking about the basics of what the NFP/napro docs state (and quoted them saying as much).

Again, NO NEED to be snarky.

You called me a liar. That is personal.

Abstaining certainly isn’t ideal but what other choice do I have? So yes, I am curious how people who have had to abstain for very extended periods have arranged their lives.

It would certainly make things simpler if the wife had to take birth control pills as her treatment but I’ll leave that up to her doctor.

The pill is the WORST thing to take for irregular cycles. And irregular cycles can be completely healthy.
No it’s not, and doctors do prescribe the pill for irregular periods. I had extremely irregular periods to the point of not having a period for nearly a year all the way into my early 20’s. My doctor gave me something to start my period and then put me on the pill. When I came off of the pill a few years later, my periods continued to come and go like clock work, every 28 days. That said, there was a better medication for my medical condition that I take now (which increases my chance getting pregnant), but I had not been diagnosed when my doctor prescribed the pill. As someone who was just having irregular periods, maybe because they were still on the young side, he prescribed the pill.

You just confirmed what I said.
Again, refer to the links above. Just as you said “there was a better medication for your medical condition”.

So the doc just covered it up instead of diagnosing and giving something to you the first time around. The pill is a class 1 carcinogen.
