Sympto thermal at age 45+, following the birth of my 6th child a few months ago.
I used billings at one point many years ago, and disliked not having confirmation of ovulation with the thermal shift. I was not confident without the temperature sign.
I find STM very easy to understand and use, and it takes me like 3 minutes a day. I chart electronically. I’ve charted even when we’ve been completely open to life, it’s good information about a woman’s health.
I know STM users (and users of other methods of NFP) who really struggle in the premenopause time and have months and months of abstainance. it’s odd, at a time of life when your fertility is lower (presumably, I have not found this to be the case) than at any other time of your life, all the methods treat you as if you were MORE fertile than ever, with increasing amounts of abstainance, months and months for some women. And it’s also frequently a time when women can have developed significant serious health reasons for the first time during her entire her reproductive years due to age relelated health issues or previous pregnancy issues which can make, for some women, another pregnancy life threatening for both mother and baby.
Personally, I find very little support for women of this age - many, many who may have used NFP in their younger days have had their tubes tied (as the dr’s pressured me relentlessly after my last child was born) or their husbands have been sterilized.
