NFP Sympto-Thermal method & antidepressants?

I want to learn how to do the Sympto-Thermal method of NFP, which includes taking basal body temperature. Does anyone know if antidepressants or anti-anxiety meds have an affect on change of temperature. I take the meds in the morning.

It wouldn’t effect your temperature reading but it could effect your mucus readings. Sympto-thermal is a combination of three signs. Temp, mucus and cervix.

My text books have charts on which medications can have an effect on your daily readings and it looks like anti-depressants have roughly a 1-7% chance of effecting how you read your mucus levels.

This may mean you might need to rely on temp readings more then mucus. There is a rule in this method that says for temp only method you wait an extra day, or fourth day, for marital relations after your peak day.

Obviously I’d recommend taking a class yourself with instructors that are more knowledgable about this matter but it shouldn’t effect your ability to use this method. Instructors can work with you to help you interpret the mucus signs or advise you to stick with the temperature only method.

I think it depends on the medication, so you’ll want to bring up those thoughts with your doctor.
I personally took zoloft for about 18 months and it didn’t affect my sympto-thermal readings in any regard… so that’s just my personal experience.

I agree with Em… talk to your doctor about your specific meds. I use sympto-thermal and am on citalopram and have never noticed it affecting my temps, mucus, etc. but I would think that all meds are different and even all women may react differently to each one.
