NFP, which method is best?

We use the STmethod. I feel pretty good about it so far. It seems like crazy lots of rules at the beginning but after a little practice it’s second nature.

I only do the temps and mucus thing too. The cervical check is pretty optional, it seems, though if it works for you, it’s a good indicator of what phase you’re in.

Oh, and I’ve slept like 3 hours or less before and still gotten accurate temps. I think it’s only affected if you get less than that and are moving around and stuff. I depend a lot on my temperatures. They’re usually pretty clear.

So I’d definetly recommend sympto-thermal based on my experience.

Kelly,

I think you got it exactly right. The real issue behind the world’s mistrust in NFP is that at the heart of the matter, NFP is open to life, and what is really the matter is a general anti-child mentality that grips this culture.

The only time you see children really championed in this culture is when the ones doing the crowing can use children to progress their agenda. I was on a talk show the other day, and was telling the host about the recent pronouncement from the WHO that oral contraceptives were carcinogenic. He seemed to think it was a good risk to keep from having “unwanted” children.

When did we become the masters of “having” children? People say, “I’m gonna HAVE a baby”…people used to think they were GIVEN children, by a power higher than themselves. This shift in perception regarding the value of a child is at the heart of our Culture of Death.
How true. How true.

I can’t stand to hear people say to me (or around me) “I wish I didn’t have my kids” or “I dont’ know how you can deal with so many kids.”

Even my MIL has said to me that if she could go back in time she would never have had children. She’s always telling me that I don’t know the pain kids cause because mine are still young. Wait until they are older she says…:hmmm: I wonder if this could be the reason why my husband and his brother and sister really don’t have much to do with their mom anymore.

I know the abuses my husband and his siblings grew up with. My husband is in therapy because of it. My MIL denies to this day that things were bad at the house.

How you treat the kids while they are young is how they will grow up. Treat them like mere objects instead of human beings, they’ll learn to treat others (including their families) like that. Treat them like they are worth more than all the riches on the earth, that they matter…well see how they grow up then.

NFP is life oriented. The value of a child in this day and age has just declined to nothing. It’s so sad that our culture embraces death more than life and NFP is frowned upon because it leaves an alternative option for life.

God bless.

NFP is effective. I speculate that those who pick on NFP users are guilty of ABC use and justifying their own actions or maybe trying to make themselves feel better about their choice. It is a shame people find it so easy to make fun of a person’s religious beliefs and morals. :hmmm:

You can’t explain Faith to those who refuse it.

Huh? This is very sad for them.

My ILs are not supportive of us having more children. Two is enough they believe. I don’t think this made my DH feel to good about his existence (he is 3 of 4).

:amen: And society views fertility as something that needs to be stopped… SUPPRESSED! Talk about suppressing women! Fertility is unwanted :(. Do you ever feel like it is viewed the same as a disease?

NFP is effective and you don’t have to answer anyone but the Lord. Take care and God bless!

Yes, those who disagree with me use ABC or have been sterilized (including my mom who had her tubes tied, my deceased FIL had a vasectomy so my MIL speaks on their behalf).

I agree that fertility is viewed as a disease today. I talked to my SIL about this. I told her it’s like saying I want every part of you EXCEPT this thing called fertility…it’s a bother, take care of it so it doesn’t get in the way.

BTW, my in-laws are all protestant (fundamentalists).

What is most disturbing to me about my friends and family, including IL, is that they are all regular church goers, active in their churches, ready to defend their faith but quick to disagree with me when I show biblical proof of how God views fertility, children, marriage.

That’s only one of many different opinions I’m told. They don’t interpret the bible that way…

:ehh:

So be it. I tell them I’d rather err on the side of life, because that’s what Jesus was all about. He came to give us life and give it more abundantly.

God bless.

SJ!!

Long time no talk to…how have you been? I’ll tell Mrs. H I “talked” to you…

Ah…more of the diabolical nature of the BCP…This kind of news will have to be listened to though…it is the WHO, you know…darling of the liberal press!
Hi yourself! I hope you and the Mrs. are well, tell her I said hi. I hope all the kids are well also, I imagine you’re packing up the oldest to go back to school.

Don’t worry about the pesky data from the WHO. I’m sure Planned Parenthood will put a spin on that just like NARAL did with John Roberts. The media has no shame.

Actually the Basal Body Temperature - the BBT - is only affected by severe lack of sleep. My wife fully nursed twins, getting by with no more than 2-3 hours of sleep at time for over two years, and her temps were not affected. The BBT is very relieable as a fertility sign, but it does require that it be taken “reliably”, and for some people, that is an issue.
I’ve found that it varies from person to person. Some people seem to need to temp at exactly the same time each day or else they’ll have problems. For me, it doesn’t matter if I temp at 3:30am, 6 am (usual time) or 9am. There might be a variance of a tenth of a degree, and that’s it. Of course, for us it doesn’t matter so much- I’m only doing this because I know it’s the first thing an infertility specialist will want to see. If you’re using it to avoid pregnancy you’d probably be more careful.

I’ll tell her we “talked”.

Indeed the oldest is off to TAC in about a week. She starts her junior year. A classmate of hers has spent the summer “courting” her, and it looks as though an engagement is planned for next summer. He is a senior, so it will be a long-distance engagement, but it is certainly a turn in the corner for us…we still have “little ones”! (well, the twins are 6 now…put we still call them the “little ones”)

Great to hear from you…how is all in your your world?
