Nice Calm Internet Priests

With two of the “well-known internet priests” now engaging in a rather public disagreement, and other “internet priests” becoming more agitated by the day over either politics or the alleged impending end of the world, I am making a list of online priests who remain calm, do not yell or chastise people (including other priests), do not focus on end times or politics, and do not foment conflict or controversy. I understand that the priests who act otherwise probably have good intentions and some people probably benefit from their talks, but I am already experiencing enough stress in my life and prefer to avoid some of the drama.

So here is who I have so far on my list of nice calm Internet priests:

Bishop Barron
Fr. Mike Schmitz (although not really for my age group)

Please recommend others.
Thank you.

(I suppose I could also watch reruns of Ven. Archbishop Sheen as well.)

Same list for me. I wish there were more! 😦

But there are other nice priests on ascensions presents that father mike it on. Can’t really remember the names.

I bet the accents alone on those priests are calming, sez this Yankee bear.

(Fr Larry is a little too much Pittsburgh for me right now, though I’m glad he’s feeling better.)

The priest that really helped me is Fr. Heilman and he’s still a good priest and helpful but he’s gone down the politics rabbit hole big time. I understand why, especially because his part of Wisconsin has been going through some really tough stuff, but I’ve had to take a giant step back from everything going on in his group apart from just praying the prayers, which I’m really behind on due to exhaustion and overloading myself with prayer goals for this year.

I like your choices! Especially Venerable Archbishop Sheen.

I think I was about nine or ten years old when I watched “Life is Worth Living” with my Mom and Dad. And when I got older I read his columns in the Brooklyn Tablet. (Society for the Propogation of the Faith). What great talks he gave on many subjects!

From the Eastern side, I always found Abbot Tryphon incredibly deep and profound. He makes a daily reflections post on Facebook. He’s something of a celebrity (in the good way) for us.

My mother was a big fan of his when he was originally on TV.
I love him, and pray almost daily for his canonization.
Unfortunately I associate him with an elderly person I know who is in the process of a protracted passing away, so it’s a little difficult for me to watch him right now.
I’m sure I’ll be able to watch him again down the road.

Thank you, I am always happy to follow Eastern Orthodox clerics as long as they don’t get mad at me for being Catholic.

Years ago when I was away from the Church and doing Livejournal (about four social media platforms ago) I followed a priest named Fr. Seraphim who I now realize was Eastern Orthodox or Russian Orthodox. At the time I didn’t really understand what that was, I just saw a nice holy old priest with a page full of beautiful liturgies and Mary icons and stuff so I followed it. He got annoyed at me eventually, I didn’t understand why, but now I do.

I like the list so far. I would add Fr. Mark-Mary with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.

I haven’t listened to him in a while, but Fr. Ed Broom, OVM, has a steady presence and sound teaching. He has a You Tube channel, and hopefully he hasn’t gotten caught up in politics (I’d be surprised if he has). He certainly has a calm way of speaking.

That’s why I follow him. It calming knowing there are priests who care about the teachings of Jesus and His Church and are willing to fight. If you listen to his podcasts or homilies he doesn’t sound riled up at all.

It is true that in the Catholic environment, especially among very radical Catholics, there are eschatological theories, but I remember two arguments that distinguished traditional Catholicism and Protestantism.
Some strains of Protestantism (especially evangelicalism and fundamentalism) have an undue fascination for – even obsession with – the “end of the world,” which has led to unbiblical date-setting (Mt 24:30-44; 25:13; Lk 12:39-40) and much human tragedy among those who are taken in by such false prophecies.
Over-emphasis on the “imminent end” of the age (where found in Protestantism) has often led to a certain “pie-in-the sky” mentality , to the detriment of social, political, ethical, and economic sensibilities here on earth.
Therefore, I think that one-sided, biased, sectarian, or commercial eschatological sensational theories should be alien to Catholic priests.

Seconding Bp. Barron and Fr. Mike (the first of whom helped my conversion, the second of whom helped me acclimatize and grow once I was ‘in’),

and I’ve enjoyed Fr. Gregory Pine whenever he’s been on the Matt Fradd show.

Young, joyful Dominican friar – if you like Fr. Mike Schmitz I’ll assume you’ll like Fr. Gregory Pine.

I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about him yet. Clearly thinks carefully and then speaks in the most joyful and sincere way.

Edit: and now I see someone’s already mentioned him. Well, take this as underlining the recommendation then. 😉
