I am leaving this forum, why?

Jez, really it comes down to one thing.

Dis-Respect.

You guys talk about anti-catholocism, but I do not see very much at all, sorry if I am blind. I see Anti-protestanism everywhere, in topics, in topic names, in posts. I have tried my best to respect you guys, and hope for the same, but I do not see this being a good place for me to stay anymore. I have to admit, some of you are really cool to talk to about religion: Jimmy B, Rolltide, distracted, others I haven’t mentioned, but some of you are just dis-respectful robots who do not question the church, and think that anyone does should burn in hell.

Maybe the Catholic church is the true church, but even if it is, that is no reason to dis-respect others, you might be the President of the United States or the Queen of England, but that doesn’t give you the authority to dis-respect and judge other’s faith.

The True Church, to me, is Jesus Christ, sorry if I do not worship or bow to the pope like you guys, but I do not think even if Jesus is working through him that he has the right to think I should bow to him. I would bow to Jesus, but not any man, unless Jesus told me to.

I am sure I will be flamed/trolled on this topic, but frankly I do not care, at first I would ask to be told if I am rude, and if I ever am, I want you to tell me, where. I will continue to log on and pm some of the people I think have the ability to give and recieve respect, but I will not post in this forum to be attacked for not being the same as everyone else, or believing things that I do not understand.

You can call me a atheist, a pagan, a non-christian, a anti-catholic, but in the end, what you say has no worth in this world or heaven, or hell.

I am not saying the Catholic Church or any church for that matter is the true church or the false church, I am telling you that if any church teaches dis-respect and hatred for others, then that church is surely not lead by God.

I will respond to this topic, for a while, but I will probably not do it for long right now, cause I have a church to go to.

If your going to pray for me, don’t pray for me to join your true church, pray for me to follow christ, and if you’re church is the true church then thats where I should end up at.

Hate to see you go, but I completely understand. It’s what I’ve been “preaching” about the last several weeks myself. There are anti-Catholic attacks on here, I won’t deny it, but for the most part, it is someone popping in, posting once and never coming back again.

We have topic after topic from Catholics on this forum attacking protestants, who then get angry and downright hurtful if a protestant actually has the gumption to defend him/herself.

This is an honest evaluation, and I mean it in the most charitable way possible: 🙂

This is indeed a very volatile forum where passions flare on all sides. Nonetheless, with this as your mindset:
some of you are just dis-respectful robots who do not question the church, and think that anyone does should burn in hell.
you’re not really bound to make any friends. Imagine if an atheist left a non-denominational forum in a huff because he was so frustrated about how all these Christians are “just dis-respectful robots who do not question the Bible, and think anyone who does should burn in hell.”

You’d think, “wow, that guy just doesn’t understand Christianity.”

And that’s more or less how I feel about your understanding of Catholicism.

Furthermore, the anti-Catholic sentiments that people talk are all over your post. You’ve been here long enough to know that Catholics don’t “worship the Pope”, and yet here you are making a sarcastic quip about leaving us to do just that. That’s not very polite, and CERTAINLY not in the Christian spirit.

Can you point to any Catholic teaching that encourages hate of any kind?

As a final note, it seemed as if you came to this forum with the intent of shining as a beacon of nondenominational Christian purity by advertising your differences from the rest of us. Your original sig, I believe, was “Heretic for Christ”, and that just strikes me as a plea for attention given how oxymoronic it is. People here are very sensitive about that kind of thing, and when you go about having a debate with such a sig I can see why tempers might flare. It’s kind of asking for it.

Anyways, God bless, and may the peace of Christ be with you always.

I came here cause I was interested in Catholocism, and I was really close to converting to it (I probably would have if I had went to a RCIA like I wanted to), but I am just going to research through reading and talking to catholics I know.

The way it seems to me, you guys talk more about the pope then you do Jesus Christ, sorry if I see that as disturbing. I am willing to bet some Catholics do worship the pope, not all or even a quanitiy, but some I would think do, since he is glorified a lot.

I made my sig that because I am a heretic, if I do not follow the Catholic Church, right? That’s what I thought I was, if I am wrong, I apologize.

ChristianKnight,
If I used your initials CK could I call you Calvin Klein?
Bad joke, I know!

Well, I want to apologize on behalf of the Catholic Church for the bad taste you have gotten in your mouth because of certain followers.

That is one of the reasons I sympathize for people who are reluctant to choose a religion because they see too many people with too much animosity towards one another.

I am sure I have been guilty of somehow (even if loosely) fitting into the type of person you just described. If I ever have, I apologize…heck I apologize because I know I have. (Maybe just not to the degree others take it)

Sometimes people get very passionate about their faith and let their emotions come before their reason and let their actions come before their prayers.

Anyways…I feel bad that you have had such a negative reaction because it means a lot of Christians were not evangelizing the way Christ told us to. (To prove we are HIs disciples by our love.)

I started a thread on this somewhere around a week ago.
It is called:
Catholics! Shame on you!
Search for it (it is in the non-Catholic forums here.)

I hate to see you go, but my friend, who is Catholic, also left this forum because it was hurting his faith journey too much with the exposure you spoke of.

May our Lord lead you where He needs you to be!

You claim we are disrespectful then you make the comment above. It is clear that you have not learned much about the Church as we do not worship the Pope. As far bowing that is a sign of respect. I guess then you would not bow to the Queen of England as that is the custom there. You have much to learn.

lol, well first of all, if you just wrote “I am a heretic” in your sig, that would have gone over just fine, but “Heretic for Christ” is provocative 😉

Jesus hasn’t walked the Earth for awhile. The pope is a dynamic man who makes decisions which affect our faith lives. I can understand why we would talk about him more- he is far more controversial. No Catholic worships the Pope. If they do, they’re committing heresy.

Once again, it seems like you have preconceived notions which are difficult for anyone to overcome. Catholic teaching is that Jesus is God and the Pope is a man. You will not find any Catholics in communion with Rome who think otherwise.

I do not want you to apologize, cause its not anyone’s fault, part of it is my fault, I did not do what I could have done to prevent being dis-respected. Maybe if I had respected more, I would not have been dis-respected at all.

So if someone in the catholic church is worshipping the pope, they are not a part of it?

I’ll be back later, I have to go to church, talk to ya later.

btw: I am bringing up the catholic church in my youth group.

I really get very upset when I see the above happen on this forum.

Peace!

I am a Catholic who was raised Protestant, so I can’t sanction any sort of hatred against Protestants, since that would include some of my closest family and friends. Luckily, I don’t believe that the Church sanctions such hatred, either. I am sorry that you have found such negativity here. I suppose it’s all in the eye of the beholder and if I were still Protestant I might see things differently, but really this place seems tame compared to some Protestant forums I’ve been on. That doesn’t excuse any hatred, but a lot of the points of criticism directed towards Protestants here do actually have their roots in a rejection of Protestant doctrines, not blind hatred of everyone of one denomination.

Still, I’m sorry that you feel the need to leave and that people here have driven you away from further considering Catholicism. I am lucky to have had only positive, understanding, and patient teachers as I walked from Protestantism to life in the RCC. I hope that you find some people in your day to day life who can teach by example and show you the true doctrines of the Catholic faith, not indifference of hatred.

I love some things here. One, the loyalty to christ, but I’d rather stay at a other forum where their is loyalty, and I am rarely, actually never have, been dis-respected.

btw: I didn’t mean the catholic church teaches hate, but if any church (any 1 church of any denomination) teaches hate, then it is not a church of god.

So if someone in the catholic church is worshipping the pope, they are not a part of it?
A very popular expression is that the Catholic Church is a “hospital for sinners”, not a “sanctuary for saints”. ALL people are sinners, and your simply going to find that the church is filled with people that have varying levels of decency. The important thing, however, is that they still see value in the church, and so that always gives them the opportunity to change.

So, in response to your question, someone in the Catholic Church who was worshiping the pope would be committing a grave sin (which would be a mortal sin, if they realized it), but they would still be a Catholic. Being a member of the Catholic Church does not guarantee admission into heaven. It provides the tools and resources to get someone there, but they have to willingly follow God and the instructions of the Church. It’s like having a gym membership. It doesn’t matter if I’m a member of the same gym that Olympians train at, if I never go in and exercise, or worse, if I do the wrong exercises and pull a muscle or injure myself!

… unless Jesus told me to…
But how would you recognise Jesus? Would you demand to poke your fingers through His wounds like Thomas did?

I realise the question above could be offensive, but I really wonder how some people would be able to recognise Jesus.
… btw: I am bringing up the catholic church in my youth group.
I wish I could be a fly on the wall.
(Although, some people do call me a pest. :o )

I believe if that Jesus will change my decision or influence them enough to where they change.

Sorry to see you go dude, but I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Try not to judge any faith by what you read on internet boards; like anywhere else, there are good people and nut-jobs. If you check out one popular Baptist board, you’ll find that they call their equivalent of this board “False Religions” and most of posts in there about Catholics are outright vicious. Most of the Baptists I know are pretty cool, so I certainly don’t judge Baptists or the Baptist tradition by the kind of garbage that some of those people have posted. Like I mentioned to you earlier, you have to use your head and separate the wheat from the chaff; and that applies to any situation where you’re dealing with people of diverse backgrounds, educations and interests. When you react emotionally to people who behave less than charitably, you only empower them and encourage the behavior. Better to ignore them, pray for them, and don’t let them get in the way of your objective.

You’ve conducted yourself very well here and many of us have tried to make you feel welcome and answer your questions objectively. I think you’ve learned some stuff about what the Catholic Church REALLY teaches – and that’s a good thing. Keep doing what you’re doing, learning with an open mind, and you’ll find the path that brings YOU closest to God – and that may even be right where you are now.

Good luck on your journey!

Matt

Since you’re ‘actively’ researching Christ, I’m laying odds right now that you’ll be back! (You heard it here first!)

Even though The Almighty doesn’t need soldiers, that’s what we imagine ourselves to be. I’m sure He prefers that we spend more time tending to the poor and sick, comforting the needy and caring for the rest of His children; our brothers and sisters who have yet to hear The Good News.

But this is the internet in the 21st Century!! We all wannabe prancing around with our shiny shields and swords, ‘guarding’ the perimeters!

Just hurry back, Christian!..there’s a hole in the ranks.
