I am using the Morning and Evening Devine office prayer book and would like to start saying the ‘Night’ prayers too.

Is this the right one to get:

amazon.co.uk/Night-Prayer-Catholic-Book-Publishing/dp/0899423531/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1367260294&sr=1-1&keywords=night+prayer
Yes it is, but doesn’t the book you’re using for the Divine Office have Night Prayer in it? Usually if it’s the one-volume Christian Prayer it’ll have Night Prayer.

The one i have is just Morning and Evening prayer. Doesnt have evening prayer.

If you regularly have an Internet connection at the time you retire, perhaps you could use the online breviary.
That’s what my wife and I use for Compline, and it works very well other than we don’t always care for their choice of hymn, but that is obviously personal preference to some extent.

I’ve been very tempted to get this: amazon.com/The-Office-Compline-Samuel-Weber/dp/158617455X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367269280&sr=8-1&keywords=compline but I haven’t done it yet. I would love to have the chant settings to go with the text and this looks very good.

Anyone got the book i linked too? It is the right one?

I dont want to go online to read it as i prefer a book in the hand. Thanks

He’s in the UK, they don’t use Christian Prayer in the UK. He’s probably using “Shorter Morning and Evening Prayer” which doesn’t include the Night Office.

He can use one of the following to incorporate the Night Office (Compline) into his daily routine:

Daily Prayer: Morning, Evening & Night Prayer; Office of Readings for major festivals

Morning & Evening Prayer: includes Night Prayer

Or the full 3-volume Divine Office (equivalent of the North American Liturgy of the Hours).

Listen to OraLabora. He knows what he is talking about.

This looks like one you might want. Morning and Evening Prayer with Night Prayer

I don’t have the one you linked but if it is from Catholic Book Publishing Company, then I would think it is the right one. You could give them a call.

I just noticed that mine has Night Prayer in it!!!

It is not many pages though! I thought i would take up quite a bit.

Whats the difference between it and the one i linked to as that has many many more pages!

Night prayer is quite short. An examination of conscience; penitential rite; hymn; one or two psalms; short reading; responsory; short canticle; concluding prayer; antiphon or song in honor of our Blessed Mother.

Which doesn’t answer your question about the book, I know. 🤷

Are there different psalms for every day? One of the licit options is to use the Sunday psalms every day (4, 90 and 133), for the benefit of those who want to recite from memory. It’s the option I use because the monastic office uses those psalms every day as well.

I will have to learn how to recite the night prayers. I know how to do the morning and evening prayers.
