Is church an"'entertainment place"? Yes, in modern evangelicalism, that’s exactly what it has become. What a shame. Martin Luther, what hast thou wrought?
I wouldn’t say that personally. When outside of church, it’s nice to be able to find entertainment that glorifies God. Christian Night Clubs give Christians somewhere to fellowship at when not at church, and offers a more wholesome alternative to the secular Night Clubs.

You don’t have to be a traditionalist prude in order to worship God.

I don’t think this thread is about Christian Night Clubs. I sounds as if the Night Club has replaced the church. These types of “worship” are being done instead of, not outside of, the church. I have no problem with Christian Night Clubs or Coffee Houses either, but they should not be a substitute for worship in a Church.

I’m not aware of anyone I know who uses it as an alternative to church. The people I know go there for nice, clean, Christian fun.

I like to patronize a Christian coffee house called “Seekers”. But, I would never think of just going to the coffee house and not attending Mass at my Church. My Lutheran and Methodist familiy members and friends feel the same. It is better to “hang out” in a Christian coffee house than in a secular coffee house or tavern, but the coffee house should NEVER replace attending Worship services (Mass or Sunday service) at a Christian Church.👍

Hi Elizabeth

You can say that as a Catholic, but it does not apply to everyone, especially the non-believer. Let alone when being approach to ask them to church , everyone runs away thinking church is a hell, so if asking pple to church is easy , we won’t even need to strategy our approach. People who are have at least the basic foundation of christianity will more or less be more acceptance then those who don’t . Of course we are not say church is just for entertainment, but what we are trying to say is church can be fun to go just like other entertainment places. However if somone who have the mind set of stepping into a catholic church to seek entertainment, though is not correct but at least this pple does make a first move to STEP INTO A CHURCH and from there it is our role to get started from there. If there isn’t a lst step they wouldn’t even be a wrong idea of going to a church to seek entertainment and they won’t even be an opportunity for us to move this pple…
but when the fad fades everyone goes back home and doesnt return. my friend had this sort of thing at his church on wednesday nights, with a short sermon mixed in, but kids come for a few months then stop, the only regular attendees are ones who when to their formal church first then this. it makes GOD a fad. God is eternal not a fad. There is my griping. I just do not like this form of worship because it is shallow. If it is used as a thing for those who are already christian then it can strengthen faith, but it should never be a tool of evangelization. I’m really done with my gripe this time.

But I’d say that she has identified precisely the thinking behind e.g. nightclub-churches with rock bands. And “seeker-friendly” mega-churches with fancy coffee and pastry courts and food and drink holders at each seat. The mentality does seem to be about attracting customers, selling the Gospel, and gaining their patronage. If Happygal did not mean to use such language, then her error was a very fortuitous one, because she hit the nail on the head.
Churches? More like nightclubs. Do they have strippers on poles, too?

i’m do you guys think this is an ok thing to do?
not unless the Blessed Sacrament has been removed from the tabernacle, the performance taking place is of a Christian music nature, and respect for the space as a church is maintained. does not sound like any of this happened. you folks who want to hear about liturgical abuse, listen up, this amounts to descecration of a church and I think the bishop needs to hear about it, hope somebody has videotape.

If the Church has been consecrated, even if the Sacrament has been removed, it is still a CONSECRATED place. By doing this, it has been defiled (If it is a Catholic one). If it was Protestant, it wasn’t consecrated anyway, so go ahead, dance.

just because the nightclub may say christian doesn’t mean everyone is going to walk in with clean motives (including christians), just like secular night clubs, people make it seem that walking into these night clubs are purely innocent but the air in these places are filled with sin, you will even caught people who would say that they are christian rub and yet dance inappropiately, mixing a nightclub with christianity is like mixing mud and water , the water doesn’t clean the mud.

and also this also reminds me about how many christians would say " oh I am not of this world, I am just passing through" and yet make it tradition to go to night clubs

These Churches are the last gasp of Protestantism in my opinion. A Church that seeks to accomodate the whims of culture, ceases to be relevant. How desperate are these people? I mean, why not use strippers as Liturgical dancers? It’d draw people through the doors.

i’m curious to know what you guys think. there is a local church (the largest in our area) that has a saturday ‘night life’ worship service. my wife dragged me there and i was appalled. the sanctuary had been cleared and round tables set up. each table had a tableclothand a candle on it (so far, so good). but then it came time for ‘worship’… they played hard rock christian music, had the lights turned off, ran a fog machine, etc. i thought i was supposed to be at church, not a concert. bear in mind that i haven’t attended church but maybe a dozen times in the last decade, but isn’t this kind of worship sacriligeous? or is it just me? my wife thought it was great because it would reach out to people, who don’t want to go to a “fuddy duddy” church. do we have the ‘right’ to have this kind of service to bring people in? what’s the point of getting people into church if there is no reverence (imo) for God? do you guys think this is an ok thing to do?
Yes this does seem wrong. It would be a different thing if it was just an activity, but trying to pass it off as a religious service is wrong. This is a typically Protestant thing to do.
