So, last night I had a nightmare that left me too terrified to get out of bed, hearing funny noises which was (hopefully) just the house settling, and feeling very jumpy. I get these every so often. I probably made it worse by remembering stuff I’d read from “An Exorcist Explains the Demonic”. Also, the back door to the house is in my room, which is another thing that causes me some anxiety.

Anyway, before I get too off topic, what’s some things I can do to dispel the complete terror I wake up with after nightmares? I prayed the Rosary, turned on my lamp and the string of lights over my bed, flung holy water all around the bed without getting up…none of it helped much

I struggle with certain mental illness that leaves me
utterly panicked quite often. I am struggling to decide my beliefs but if you are catholic remember you have a guardian angel! On the non religious side try calming down by using this breathing pattern. Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds as much air as you can handle. Hold it for 7 seconds. Blow it out slowly through your mouth for 8 seconds. Do this until you feel better. Something about either activating the parasympathetic nervous system to override the adrenal response or just more oxygen in your brain. Either way try it!

Have you considered investing in a light saber? Their price has come down a lot in the last 10 years.

Is it possible that you could move to another room to sleep, a room where you won’t have the back door? That could be the cause of the anxiety.
Nope, my bedroom used to be an office and all the other rooms are taken, unless I want to sleep in the bathroom. Usually I’m okay, since my grandpa has a gun and I have my knife close by, but every once in a while it gets to me, 'specially when I do wake up in the middle of the night and hear the wind or the cat scratching at the screen door

If I saw a creature like that the whole neighborhood would know it

Angel of God prayer before bedtime…that ought to do the trick!

Well, for starters, don’t read those scary books anymore. Why don’t you fall asleep reading a nice book. Whatever that might be to you. Then you are more likely to have more pleasant dreams. Or you could listen to an audio book or something…

Unfortunately I am a very curious person, so I read books like that, feel perfectly fine during the day…and then it’s all down hill from there haha

Your brain will respond to sensory information while it is sleeping and this can affect your dreams. For example, I remember one night I had nature music playing in the background on my computer, and the theme was running rivers. I never turned it off before going to bed. That night, I dreamt I was in a forest with running steams all about me.

Having soft & tranquil music playing might direct your mind towards that state while it is sleeping.

Consistently say nightly prayers before going to sleep that direct your minds towards God & spiritual things.

And if worse comes to worse, if you wake up and there is a giant 3-headed demon monster standing over your bed, tell it that you have the flu and then start coughing on them. It will quickly retreat to Walgreens to pick up some Immune-boosting orange drinks.

Post a sign on the back door that says “Please use front door”, that way the monster will know to use the front door.

Interesting…now I would like to go to be tonight with Pac-Man sounds as I am sleeping.

So that means you will be dreaming of being chased by ghosts, or eating dots all night.

Hello AR ,I’ve found what really helps me have a sound sleep with adventurous dreams of a good nature is reading some pages of my favorite stories as a child (Moomin ,All the Laura Ingles Wilder books etc ) Fill my head of peaceful stories.
Another option is to have CDs of stories .

Hello, this is the spirit of fear. Spirits love to attack is in our sleep; the evil one has taunted me through my dreams many times.

You should look up deliverance ministries, especially the unbound program. I believe that you may have an unclean spirit attached to you that you received after a traumatic past situation.

My best suggestion is to say “In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast out the spirit of fear and I forbid you from interfering with this situation in any way.”

You have to use the name of Jesus Christ because the evil one will exploit any loophole and see’s Jesus as a name held by many men, but Jesus Christ is held by one.

I also recommend that you ask for Saint Michael’s intercession. He is a powerful warrior and whenever you call upon him an archangel of God is literally in your midst. So say the Saint Michael prayer before bed.

Also, invest in a crucifix and get it blessed. Place it over your bed.

I also recommend getting your house blessed by a priest. Sometimes unclean spirits can stick around in a place looking for a host to dwell in. So make sure you get a little “house cleaning” done.

On a more psychological side, read something relaxing and fun before bead. Or listen to some nice music.
Before it happens again I recommend finding something that gives you comfort. If you get another nightmare simply find that thing and use it to displace some of the fear. Listening to an audiobook with the light on will also help.

Also look at your diet. Stay away from dyes, processed foods, etc; all of these things have been proven to have adverse side effects on our mental state. A recent study showed that inmates that were fed foods that contained dyes had a drastic increase in violence and murder rates between inmates and guards, while a prison that fed it’s inmates organic food had no violence.

If the issues persist then contact a priest and a phsycologist.
