Make sure you pray before going to bed, make the sign of the cross on your bed before going to sleep and ask God for help.
Also maybe keep a lamp with an icon lit on all night? If it doesn’t stop you from sleeping that is.
I used to have many of those including someone strangling me with cross necklace and a deep laugh when I was truly an agnostic indiferent person about religion. The cross at my neck was like the only think to link to being Christian. And then I had this dream in which someone was laughing and then paralyzed me and growled at me “what is this? poking my back” and then he strangled me with it from behind. I woke up and saw the cross at the necklace had turned on my back.
But after I began praying and being more interested in my faith while strange dreams continued eventually they became less and less scary for me and one day stopped. Now I have other strange dreams but none qualifies as nightmare as in debilitating me from living my life after I wake up.

Heard someone say this earlier today. In the spirit of Dante.

If you are going through hell, keep going.

John paul jackson was directed to teach people how to ubderstand dreams .
I have 50 years experience.
Good luck. God bless

Since watching the movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose, I have stopped reading materials regarding demons. To protect myself from evil, the simple prayer “Lord, strengthen and protect me from evil” always works. The trust factor is very important. In my whole life, I’ve had only two or three nightmares although I read true ghost stories at certain times. I read the Bible before I sleep.

For the op: Try sitting with the eyes closed for a while before going to bed. Maybe 5’-10’ to start. Also saying a few prayers or meditate for the same amount of time if possible. This should help to settle the mind to counteract all the garbage (we) put ourselves through each day. 5’ of meditating on the breath with eyes closed really helps me get to sleepmore easily and soundly.
