I came across this recently on some CAF thread and I’d never heard of it before. Given as tomorrow will be the first Friday in March, I’d like to try it.

I’m not sure exactly what it entails though? I’ve read that one has to go to Communion each first Friday for nine months, and that it is as reparation for sins against the Sacred Heart of Jesus, but not sure exactly how to do it - the websites I found seemed to vary in the requirements

In the 12 Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary,
Promise 10 declares:
Code:
I will give to priests who are animated by a tender devotion to my Divine Heart
the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.

How will the priests be "animated" by a tender devotion to the Sacred Heart of the Lord Jesus?

Hi,
Great to learn of another soon-to-be devotee to the Sacred Heart!

On this thread from last year, a lot of people posted information about books, videos, and web sites that provide information about the devotion: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=741653

One of the most thorough books on the Sacred Heart is Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Father John Croiset, S.J.: catholiccompany.com/devotion-to-sacred-heart-jesus-i8486/

In the local Catholic bookstore, I have seen other books on the Sacred Heart too, including pamphlets and prayer books.

Well, I had about 2 minutes before I had to leave for church to read the answers to this thread to find out what to do! 😃

So I clicked on Daisybee’s link and found this prayer:

My dearest Lord Jesus, I will now receive this Holy Communion for love of Thee, in atonement for all the coldness and for all the sins whereby mankind has ever offended Thee in the Sacrament of Thy Love. Amen.

which I said (in my mind) when I received communion. Does this fulfil the devotion? If so I’ll (hopefully) remember to say it again in a month’s time - if it isn’t suitable and I was supposed to do something else as well, I’ll have to start next month.

I am going to buy a book on Devotion to the Sacred Heart. I did see one in the church I went to but unfortunately had no money on me and couldn’t buy it.

‘Animate’ means to be inspired or encouraged. So priests who are inspired or feel encouraged by the Sacred Heart will be given the grace to influence those who might otherwise not be affected by the priest’s words.
