Hello all-

My wife is going to give birth any day now… Thursday they will induce if nothing happens between now & then. We have been using NFP faithfully for about 1-1/2 years now.

Anyhoo- she wanted to have the marital embrace a couple of days ago “to help get things going” as kind of a hopeful side effect I guess. Not the primary reason!! She wondered if I was up for it (Oh yeah) but wanted to…well…keep things a little cleaner than normal. That’d be up to me if you get my meaning. So, I politely declined.

Even though there is zero chance of her getting pregnant, and we are very obviously “open to life”…could we have had the embrace whilst I “kept things cleaner”? I thought not, but what say you?

Thanks

I’m assuming you mean that you wouldn’t complete inside her, correct?
Well, that would - first off - entirely defeat the purpose of helping to “get things going” as far as labor is concerned… that’s what the semen DOES… 😉
And, well, yeah the whole morality aspect is a big no-no… regardless of where she is in her fertility… each unique act needs to be both procreative and unitive.

Well…Thanks!

The big O and the semen can help kickstart labor.

Em is right about it needing to be unitive and procreative (even if she’s already pregnant).

An early congrats for this new little one! 🙂

Marital act is okay during:

Pregnancy;

Days before the child birth;

The day of child birth (of course before the waters loss, before the labor and before the delivery): Sometimes the conjugal act can bring on labor., but per se if there are no medical problems, conjugal making love is not a sin even just before the end of pregnancy. If each members of couple are okay no problem if no medical issue.
Why refuse the marital act at this time, if no medical issue???

The O will help tone the uterus, because they’re contractions, but they won’t push you into labor if your body isn’t ready for it. Think of it like exercise. 😃

The prostaglandins in sperm is what can kick-start labor.

Hey FPT my favorite Frenchman!

No…the conjugal act was turned down by me because of the suggestion to make it non-procreative. Upon recieving all the good advice on here about what truly brings on labor, tonight it will be a different story!

Thanks everyone…
