No advice during confession?

Yes. It is true that if those in line have mortal sins and the priest takes the entire 45 minutes to hear one confession when there is a line of 20 people.
Then why not discourage people who have only venial sins from going to confession? If there are 20 people with only venial sins, then someone with a mortal sin might not have his confession heard in the allotted time. Do you see how this can go? I get the point. Really, I do. But should we really be in the business of deciding what should go on during someone’s confession. We have no idea what that person needs from God and the priest at that moment.

I made a confession with an OFM Cap. priest in St. Peter’s during Holy Week. Honestly, I was kinda looking forward to the advice part as this was the first time I confessed outside of my country, but was a bit surprised that he asked me to pray the act of contrition and prescribed penance.

It was valid, and I am blessed to have the opportunity to do that. But still, would’ve loved to benefit from Franciscan wisdom.

How blessed are you to have Confession at St. Peter. We have a Capuchin friar who is a family friend. A scholarly and resourceful priest.

I guess that’s how it is with Confession. My wife one time came back and said Father asked her to omit the introduction and instead just said the sins. It was during a penitential service and probably the big number of penitents necessitate him to cut short the Confession.

God bless.
