No blessings for now

My mother was very, very involved in parish volunteering and I completely agree with you, the politics were sometimes awful. There were activities my mother would avoid just based on who was involved in them or running them. Thankfully there were also some good, down-to-earth people involved with the parish and my mom would try to work with them as much as possible. I must admit that watching her experiences over 20 years does not make me want to rush to get involved. I tried it a couple times but ran into some weird situations, and right now my job would also make it very difficult for me to be involved, so I confine myself to praying with prayer groups and sometimes making donations of money or food or whatever is needed.

I’d understand and be cool with a priest telling me that. I’d even donate a mask and a bottle of hand sanitizer— worth their weight in gold right now— to a priest who would honestly communicate with me instead of not even returning a simple phone call.

I know it’s nonessential, I never claimed I needed it. I know it can wait but this just reminds me of all the other times my local priest and deacon have brushed me off, even in good times.

I just hear of priests going the extra mile to take care of their parishioners by sending out bottles of holy water, doing drive through confessions, setting up speakers in the parking lot to allow people in their cars to still be present at church for mass, etc. all over the country but over here I can’t even get a priest to take a phone call. I think there are some creative priests out there trying to still reach out to people but mine isn’t one of them and I just wish they were. True, maybe some aren’t strong enough to keep up with all that and do need spiritual triage now.

Someone I know in a different parish just had a priest happily bless her rosary for her the other day so I know some of them are able to do so. Its just a matter of finding parishes that still reach out at this point.
