Christ would be able to read the penients heart. The priest can only infer based on their actions.
 
Firm purpose of amendment, as we promise in our Act of Contrition. “… and I firmly resolve to sin no more. Amen.”

Without that, absolution may be withheld. eg someone having to stop sexual activities with their live in partner - and co-habitating (for a Catholic not married until they are firm in their decision to amend their lives).

I can’t honestly say if the four Sundays were part of the penance,or not. We were separated by the screen,and I’m pretty sure that it was in response to my confession of failing to fulfill my obligations to the Church by my sporadic Mass attendance-Especially Holy Days of Obligation, and tithing. I haven’t mentioned everything that I confessed, but I sincerely feel that he did exactly what he was supposed to do- Especially the ongoing possibility of improper activities with my gf.
 
Small observation re the link: Have you noticed that in modern lists of the Spiritual Works of Mercy, “Admonish the sinner” is not first but second or third on list? I prefer “Admonish the sinner” at the top, just like your link. 😉
 
You have an obligation to attend Mass every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation. If you can attend a Traditional Latin Mass, great. If not, you must attend a Novus Ordo.
 
Any Mass or Divine Liturgy celebrated within the 24 Catholic Churches united under the pope are valid.
 
Yes, I forgot to mention Eastern Rite Divine Liturgies satisfy the obligation.
