I generally agree with Cardinal Muller and Pope Emeritus Benedict’s analysis of the crisis, though I still think that his assertion that Benedict and Pope Francis are in complete harmony on this subject is quite dubious. Especially when he uses a significant portion of his essay arguing directly against Pope Francis’ theory that clericalism is the root cause of the sexual abuse crisis. Plus with the recent reports that Benedict’s letter may have been written for the recent summit and was withheld from the participants by Pope Francis, I think it’s stretching the truth, at best.
