So for 9 months I have been masturbating and have been trying to get rid of it ever since. I prayed for forgiveness, went to confession when available and to resist all impure thoughts. Then one night, i fell to the sin again and guess what…NO GUILT!? I felt so calm and spirited even after doing it. Of course i prayed for forgiveness and tried to resist the next day and here’s when the weird part starts. It’s been a week since the day AND I HAVE NOT Masturbated. I was able to resist impure thoughts and temptations perfectly and am planning to go to confession when next available. So heres my question. Is it wrong to not feel guilt after sinning? Does it drag me away from God? I suffer from anxiety which leads me to ask such questions.

Antonio, feelings are affected by all sort of conditions.
They are not a true measure of repentance.
The true indication of repentance includes asking God’s pardon and grace, resolving not to sin again, and sincerely continuing to try not to sin.
In choosing to go to Confession you are making an act of repentance.

hhmmmm…Interesting. I think that there are a number of levels to this and I believe it is probably best for you to discuss this with your confessor. He knows you better and can likely offer the best insight.

Peace

I am not really sure what you are asking. But, I believe the world is full of people that do not feel guilty after sinning. It doesn’t make their sin any less sinful.

Actually Antonio, the fact is the deeper into sin we go, the less guilt we feel. More sin does not equal more guilt, it actually results in feeling less guilt - this is because sin deadens one’s conscience. Sin predisposes one to sin. It is a slippery slope. One mortal sin opens a crack in your relationship with God. Each successive sin widens that gap until it becomes a gulf.

Thankfully, God in his infinite mercy offers us a way back into his friendship.

Therefore not feeling guilt after committing sin should set off alarm bells. Go to Confession as soon as possible followed by Mass. Regular confession strengthens grace and helps one to combat sin. This allows us to gradually restore our friendship with God. The closer we draw to God, the more aware we are of how damaging sin is. Strive to stay close to the Lord and then you will not want any distance to come between you which helps to avoid sin.
