Okay, great. What do you suggest that we, as American Cathlics, do about this? Wouldn’t it be better addressed to the German Episcopal Conference? Or the Holy See? And you still haven’t shown that a Mass is being celebrated. But you did succeed in attracting attention to yourself. Keep stirring that turd, we wouldn’t want it to settle, now would we?
Actually the German Bishops’ conference asked Rome for intercommunion with Lutherans and to eliminate “Let us pray” from before prayers during Mass, because it promotes “priestly supremacy”. DO you think they care?

Your first sentence works for me towards you so I will repeat it here.

gelsbern, you are starting to get on my nervers however out of charity that all I am going to say on that.

“Roman” Catholic does not describe the One True Church, it actually describes one of the sui iuris churches that makes up the One True Church. This church is more correctly called the Latin Catholic Church.

Seems you forget that the universal Catholic Church is actually made up of, about, 23 sui iuris churches.

I, as well as a few others here, can not be described as Latin (or Roman) Catholics. We could be called Byzantine Catholics but if one wishes to be correct then one would have to call us by the churches we belong to.

For myself that would be a Byzantine (Ruthenian) Catholic. Then there are Ukrainian Greek Catholics and Melkite Greek Catholics, just to name a few.

And so that a gasket isn’t blown, the Ruthenian is in parenthesis as the Church has dropped it from their name as they list it.
I did not mean to exclude the other valid rites found within the universal church and I apologize if that was the impression. However if I said I am a Latin Rite Catholic to common everyday people, they would think I went to a Spanish Mass. Roman Catholic is perfectly desciptive of what religion I adhere to.

Again I apologize for the impression that I was excluding any of the other rites that are viewed as valid and are in communion with Rome.

Hey Byzcath, Byzantine means “East Roman”. You are East Roman and most of us are West Roman. Therefore it is the Roman Catholic Church. Even the Christians under the Sultan kept this title of “Romanoi”.

The only churches which can call foul at the name Roman are the Oriental Catholics/Orthodox. You are an East Roman Catholic

Maybe in your mind but not according to the Vatican or anyone else who matters.

As has been pointed out, the term Roman Catholic was a derogatory term coined by protestants.

Can you show me any offical church documents that use this term?

This is a problem we have in the Church. You are not a Latin rite Catholic.

This is a misunderstanding of the term rite. A person is not a member of a rite but of a Church. A Church belongs to a specific rite.

The proper thing to tell a person is that you are a Latin (or even Roman) Catholic as you belong to the Latin (or, again, Roman) Catholic Church.

Roman Catholic is perfectly descriptive of what church you belong to. As we both belong to the Catholic Church, but Roman Catholic is in no way descriptive of what I belong to.

And this is where all good Catholics are supposed to gasp and say,“Oh, NO!!! Communion with HERETICS?!?!?!?!?” Before I do that, could you please provide proof of your assertion against the German Bishops?

That is not true and i bet you have no proof at all for it because it just is pure fabrication!
