what is up with that? what could be more of an inherent human desire than singing and making music for the glory of god?

i know the koran doesn’t outlaw music at all, but i believe the hadith and the sunnah specifically outlaws music and that is the “popular” teaching from most imans. i mean come on now. i’m a horrid amateur violinist but i couldn’t give it up, i find it hard to believe god has an issue with me making “music” on my violin.

how do muslims get by with no music? serious question…

Hi

In my opinion there is no difference in teachings of Moses, Jesus and Muhammad.

Jesus never played any musical instrument nor Mary or John the Baptist.

So it is no usual for glory of God Allah; then people get carried away with the instruments and perhaps the moral and spirituality are often left behind.

I love Jesus and Mary as I do love Buddha and Krishna

Thanks

MUSIC - Can We?
Yes? or No?

by Yusuf Estes

…I personally, was a musician and owned music stores and teaching studios and even had our own music show on cable TV, “The Estes Music Jamboree.” Our stores sold organs, pianos, pianos, band instruments and drums of all types and sizes.

Our family was really into music and I made millions of dollars in the music industry over a period of several decades. It is based on this real life experience that I can tell you in all sincerity, there is no doubt in my mind these musical instruments are very much a tool of the shayton and something to take people away from the rememberance of Almighty Allah. I have seen it and know there are people who make a lot of money out of this nonsense.

The Quran promises us things in Jennah far beyond our wildest dream. And certainly the music of Paradise is going to be better than any of this trashy stuff here, right? I want the music of Jennah and I want it for all of the Muslims, ameen.

…Islam does not simply deprive its followers from good things of life. It just sets the rules to enjoy these things in a way that will not make us forget the main reason of our existence in life.

This is the very point that is greatly stressed by some scholars who have aversion to music. Their main concern is how does man strike a balance between the enjoyment of all what Allah Almighty made lawful for him and the duty of maintaining close relation with Allah.

…Singing should not be accompanied with something that is prohibited such as alcohol, nakedness, mixing of men with women, like that is common in pubs and nightclubs

this guy has obviously never heard a child prodigy play paganini. it is 100% a god given talent, no other explanation, there are some people who can simply pick up an instrument and play music like the rest of us brush our teeth or tie our shoes. and when a violin prodigy can do it, the music transcends mere notes on paper you feel it in the fiber of your being.

music is the works of satan? i don’t buy it at all, and neither did mohammed or he would’ve mentioned it in the koran. if the koran is complete 100% god’s instruction why the need for these added rules from the hadith and sunnah hundreds of years later, that frankly are stupid?

all kinds of songs are not haram. There are some 100 % Halal 😛 Islamic songs ( without music ) . Our revert brothers Dawud ( David ) Whinrsby & some other sang without any musical instruements.

Here is a halal song :

A nasheed by Dawud Wharnsby Ali called The Veil (Hijab)

I could never follow a religion like Islam. But I do appreciate what David Whinrsby is doing through his talent. And I prefer the version with instruments. LOL

I discovered him several years ago when researching Rachel Corrie, the young American peace activist who was murdered by the IDF. I could not believe that even mourners at her memorial service were tear-gassed and shot at.

His song about Rachel was very moving.

For those curious this was taken 2 days before her death. youtube.com/watch?v=O3JI-axaRF4

The entire Book of Psalms is music dedicated to the glory of God. David sang and danced and the Lord was pleased with him!

Hi

Jesus is supposed to be in the line of David; then why did Jesus not sang , played musical instruments and dance for the glogry of God Allah YHWH?

There must be some strong reason. Please take the same reason for Muhammad/Islam.

May be Jesus did not do it in love of Muhammad, perhaps, in my opinion.

Muhammad also love Jesus very much; perhaps Jesus also loved him, in my opinion, a reciprocal love.

I love Jesus anad Mary as I do love Buddha and Krishna.

Thanks

yes , we also believe David/Dawud (p) was blessed with a holy book . He used to recite it with his beautiful voice . It’s mentioned in holy Quran.

And your Lord knows best all who are in the heavens and the earth. And indeed, We have preferred some of the Prophets above others, and to Dawood (David) We gave the Zaboor (Psalms).

Al-Isra, Chapter #17, Verse #55)

And indeed We bestowed grace on David from Us (saying):
"O you mountains. Glorify (Allah) with him! And you birds (also)…

سورة سبأ , Saba, Chapter #34, Verse #10)

Jesus did not marry and have children. Maybe He did not do it in love of Muhammad who had plenty of wives.

**Then apparently you’re not familiar with any of them.

Isa akbar!

Isa akbar!*

ISA AKBAR!

I bear witness there is NO GOD but Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and Jesus is God Incarnate risen from the dead.**

Actually, Music is very much a part of Jewish experience. Miriam lead singing and dancing in the OT. David played a harp and played a timbrel while dancing NAKED in the streets. God was PLEASED with that. It has always been a part of Christian experience.
Just because the scripture does not say Jesus danced or played music, does not mean he did not do these things. His first miracle was making wine for a wedding celebration. They danced and had music at these celebrations. God gave us an inclination to music. The Evil One perverted it to use against us. That is always his plan: take something wonderful that God gave us, pervert it and use it against us. ALWAYS. The Evil One did not create music. God did.

that i would agree with since none of them ever forbade musical instruments in any way whatsoever. it wasn’t until hundreds of years later that was added in the ahadith by some guy who was way too uptight.

Then whoever forebade music hundred of years later by hadith made it a commandment of man and not of God?

There is a difference of opinion among scholars regarding the permissibility of music with the majority saying that it is forbidden.

In any case, listening to music is considered a minor sin in Islam although it is advisable to avoid it.

Not performing the 5 daily prayers and not fasting in the month of Ramadan are however MAJOR sins in Islam and unfortunately many Muslims commit these grave sins.

It is therefore a question of priorities and most Muslims would not delve too deeply on this subject of music as there are issues of far greater significance and urgency confronting Muslims.

Sorry if I may need to learn further from your comments.
Is this a commandment from God or from man?

In Islam, all matters regarding permissibility is the sole prerogative of God alone.

However, in some instances, there is some ambiguity regarding the correct interpretation of the ahadith concerning these particular matters.

Music is one such matter where there is to be found a certain degree of ambiguity in interpreting the ahadith concerning it’s permissibilty.

Hence, based on scholarly opinion, a large majority of scholars would say that music is impermissable. However, there are a smaller number of scholars who say the opposite.

And for these scholars who say that music is permissable, their opinion would be that it is not a sin to either play or hear music as long as it does not contain other haram things.

So Muslims are divided on this. One say music is haram, others halaal.

Jesus actually condemned those who did not dance when the music was played and when people should dance. Everything has certain purpose and it must be followed accordingly.

Matt11:17
" 'We played the flute for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge
and you did not mourn.'

Michal was cursed and became barren when she despised king David for dancing before the Lord. In ancient Hebrew context, this is a significant curse as for a woman to be barren was tantamount to be deprived of the purpose she was created for. It was through her children that she would find her greatness.

Your interpretation seems to be obviously ignorant of this fact.

**2 Samuel 6
16 As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart.

20 When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, disrobing in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!”

21 David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the LORD. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”

23 And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.**

We have more incidences where music brought victories in wars. The Priests only needed to blow the trumpets and the wall of Jericho collapsed and not a single sword was raised to win that battle.
