"No one goes to hell unless they choose to"

I dont want to start anything, but when I was little, I was always taught if you sin and continue to sin, you will go to Hell. However I was also taught all sins are forgiven. So when it comes to this question, I am just plain confused.

This again gets at the issue of how we view sin.
The Old covenent was based on a the “Mosaic Law” which determined sin and punishment.
The New Covenent is not like that. The new covenent is not about “rules” that we break or not. It is about an entire life outlook.
“Seek first the Kingdom of God”,
“Love God with your whole heart, your whole mind and your whole soul”,
“Love your neighbor as yourself”
“It is not what enters a man that makes him unclean but what comes out of his mouth…”
“you must be perfect as your heavenly Father is Perfect”

• • and so on.

When we are thinking and acting in ways contrary to Love, then we are sinning. Each sin make the next one easier just as batting practice makes it easier to hit a baseball. eventually the habit is formed and the chains of sin bind us tight.
Likewise each act of charity, each prayer loosens the chains and weakens those bindings. What the sate of your soul is at the ned will depend on what kind of “Batting practice” you have been consentrating on. Serving God? Or NOT?

One thing that troubles me is the pronouncement of Our Lady of Fatima that many people are in hell because they have no one to pray for them. How can these people be at fault? (By the way, I know that we are supposed to accept certain apparitions as genuine and bound to believe in them…is that correct?) I have committed myself to pray every day for everyone who does not have someone praying for them. I hope that helps. and if I am incorrect please let me know. The more I learn, the more I realize how ignorant I am. Peace be with you.

As I recall my religious training (many years ago), private revelations such as Lourdes, Fatima & Guadeloupe have been declared as “worthy of belief” by the Pope. In other words, they are not dogma which every Catholic is compelled to believe in order to be saved. I would expect that most Catholics take such apparitions and their pronouncements as the latter. I consider them worth pondering, but do not give Fatima or the other private visions equal weight with the Bible and Chruch Tradition.

I was taught that we are not bound to believe them. They are not like a doctrine of the faith that way. But it is a very good idea to pray for those who need your prayers. Keep right on praying!

Remember, public revelation is complete. Jesus is the word, the one, entire word. There isn’t extra stuff that we are waiting for. You can read about it in CCC paragraphs 65-67.
