No religion in Canada

In the 1971 census, 1% of people said they had no religion. By the 2001 census, it was 16%. In British Columbia now, 35% of people say they have no religion.

Increase in those reporting “No religion”

Who are the “no religion” people? What does this development tell us? And should we be concerned?

I have a few friends from there in online games, and I’ve always suspected their was a conspiracy, as they were all agnostics, besides one Christian from the Phillipines (sp).

I totatlly agree! Its like when atheist say “i dont believe in anything”…they actually do “they **believe ** that there is no God”…they can’t prove that statement so it is all based on faith

Yah, the trend is following, noting that I DO live in BC, and I attend these schools. However, those who are religious do take it to heart; living in Surrey, there are a majority of wonderful Sikhs and Muslims, and at my high school prior to this one, choice amount of Christians.

Of course, from those two high schools, I have only met 2 people who are strongly Catholic and are fully faithful to Rome (even Catholic teachers seem to be lukewarm in their faith).

Most of the British Columbians I know, I have met in Catholic circles. But I would like to know how the percentage of believers divides between the Interior and the Lower Mainland and the Island.

You’re probably right. I named Geddy because he was the one who sang that song, if I remember correctly. Still, they’re both noted Canadian philosophers.

I came to Canada from Norway in 2002 as “no religion”. First Sunday of Advent 2004 I was received into the Catholic Church. I guess you can say that I added one person to the religious lot.

One down and millions more to go.
