The first Church we visited was built in the 70’s, and it looked just like you described! (That’s not why we didn’t choose that Church, though it didn’t help, my husband just didn’t have a connection with parish priest).

The Church of Christ is very strong here where I live and each church is pretty well independent. They are a “bible only” church, but since they are independent the way they interpret the bible differs from congregation to congregation. There were a couple of Churches of Christ here that almost came to blows over whether supporting missionaries was biblically based. I’m not sure how that one panned out.

There’s a CoC preacher here on the radio who looks on celebrating Christmas and Easter in the Church as being on a par with worshiping Satan. It’s not in the bible!!!

By the way, the local Presbyterian church here has the Stations of the Cross on the wall.
