Careful, don’t let anger take a hold of your charity. Remember St. Peter, our first Pope said:

Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. 1 Peter Chapter 3:15-16
Sorry, I didn’t post that out of anger. More like humor. I get kick out of the posts and it truly makes me think of that. Sorry if it seems like a mean thing to say, wasn’t supposed to be.

Everyone always tells me I’d make a good hippie.

I rather be a good Catholic Christian than a hippie. 👍

Me too:) Thanks for the quote too. Its definitely a good one. Especially online, its important to remember to practice charity. I know its something I struggle with.

Our life experience vary from person to person. It is based on the culture, language, and religious belief.

Protestants who’s doctrine is based on Sola Scriptura would automatically differ from the next baptist. They have no sole unified set of beliefs, except certain core doctrines.

Considering faith and moral issues, if the Caucasian Catholic is practicing and loyal to the Magisterium, his understanding of theology would be the same as those of Chinse or African-American, who are also loyal to the Magisterium. That is in agreement with all teachings of the Church.

I would like to note that Eastern Catholicism and Western Catholic might use different theological terminology, the core beliefs are basically the same. Eastern Catholics use the term expression of beliefs to explain certain Catholic dogma and doctrine.

It might be true, but if he finds homosexual to be ok. He is going against Scripture.

Opinons vary but if the parent is obedient to the Church, and so are you, then the belief are the same.
even if all you say is true,
you still have one achilles heel.
level of knowledge.

do all catholics have the same
exact level of knowldedge.
i believe many if not most still
see christianity as fire and brimstone.
a theologian might see something
entirely different in a passage/sermon/etc.

when catholics (whichever catholic you are)
close their eyes, do they all see the same god?
i bet if you told them to draw a picture of it,
they would all draw something different.

and you know as well as i, as far as obedience
goes, not all catholics follow every single rule
exactly and the same.

WindyHair, What exactly is the purpose of this thread? If we were to all agree that there is no absolute truth and all things are relative would we be done and free to go? I agree that no two people have the same exact belief. So now what? In your philosophy that is relative and only your truth. It may also be my truth but that’s relative to what my definition of truth is as opposed to your definition of truth. So it’s possible that two people may have the same truth since that’s relative to whether or not they even know what truth is. If two people have no idea what truth is then they may believe the same thing since they parallel in their ignorance of truth.

So, WindyHair, what is religion? How can we discuss religion when no one really knows whether or not it even exists? No God, no religion. Know God, know religion. But that’s relative to whether or not one has the ability to really know anything. Maybe our thoughts are relative to our experiences and our experiences are relative to our environment which is relative to whether or not we really exist at all. If we don’t exist then nothing is really relevant and I’m not really here. In that case, I sure did a lot of writing but that’s only relative to your existence and ability to read. You may not even exist which means that I am really writing to no one. But if I don’t exist and you don’t exist then there is really nothing here. Whether or not there is anything written here is your truth and not necessarily my truth. So…for the last five minutes you may have been reading nothing or something. Who knows? Surely not I, if I’m not in existence but if I am then I had a great time writing this.

I don’t have to worry about a moderator checking this post for topic content because I simply don’t believe that moderators exist, therefore in my belief anything goes or nothing goes…I haven’t decided yet…Or just maybe I did. 😃

as far as absolute truth goes,
don’t confuse religion with math.
they are far apart.

in religion, i believe many things can be possible.
we may just be seeing truths in different shapes
and forms. but they are still part of or the same truth.
if see love in the form of a triangle, and you see love
in the form of a square, is your love truer than mine?
is one more than the other if they are made of the same
thing?

hahaha I’ve never done LSD but I’d imagine the results are something like this!

Now in the spirit of this thread let’s all hold hands and sing “Colors of the Wind”. :heaven::grouphug:

And you base this on what?

This one achilles heel is only limited since human beings have finite minds. We don’t have infinite minds to comprehend the supernatural reality of God.

That depends on the amount of education or instruction of the faith they have received. If they are properly taught the correct teachings of the Catholic Church, that is all the essentials, they have the basic knowledge of God based on what we have been taught. This person may have an high school degree, Assiociate Degree, or Bachelor Degree, or Masters, and Doctorate in major fields of education from science, economy, etc.

However, they are limited in those field. Someone who has a doctorate decree of Theology, Moral Theology, Philosphy etc, would have better understanding of the Catholic faith. However, since their minds are still limited, there is no certainty they have a better understanding of God.

Depending on what culture they grow up in and the amount of religious education they have it may differ. All Catholics or Christians believed God is a Triune God. One God, Three Divine Persons.

Drawing a picture differs a lot. For example, Catholic West image of God differs from those in the Catholic East.

Let me illustrate. Let me quote Wikipedia Inc.
The Christian East, for its part, correlates ecclesiology and Trinitarian doctrine, and seeks to understand the doctrine of the Trinity via the experience of the Church, which it understands to be “an ikon of the Trinity” and therefore, when St. Paul writes concerning Christians that all are “members one of another,” Eastern Christians in turn understand this as also applying to the Divine Persons.
The Western (Roman Catholic) tradition is more prone to make positive statements concerning the relationship of persons in the Trinity. It should be noted that explanations of the Trinity are not the same thing as the doctrine itself; nevertheless the Augustinian West is inclined to think in philosophical terms concerning the rationality of God’s being, and is prone on this basis to be more open than the East to seek philosophical formulations which make the doctrine more intelligible
.

Here is an image of Western Catholicism view of the Trinity:

Here is the view of Eastern Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy:

upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/17/Andrej_Rubl%C3%ABv_001.jpg

The image differs in some context but the element remains the same.
and you know as well as i, as far as obedience

Obedience to the Church is obedience to God. Catholics who are not obedient to the Church find themselves with God’s precepts. They put their own selfish needs above God. I think that is were “Caferia Catholics” risk the destiny of their soul. A risk I think is very bad gamble, especially if it deals with the salvation of your soul.

no two people have the exact same belief.
the kingdom of god lies not in a church,
or in another man, not here nor there.
the kingdom of god lies within us.

For a Christian who understands his or her faith, belief today needs to have the basics, which, in my opinion, is the Apostles and Nicene creeds. Can a christian have the same exact belief? In matters of what has been revealed by God, I say, they should at least share a common belief.

many if not most religions
share a common belief of a god in some
form. why can’t that be enough?

why can’t it be enough to just
believe in god?

I hope you don’t mind if I hug you!!! hugs 🙂 I’m about ready to turn myself into a total hypocrite on this one… but watch this, I’ll try my best to refute well and still be charitable 😉

I used to be a relativist myself :o … then Jesus swooped in and rescued me, using His good Catholics as His hands and mouthpiece for doing so…

I think that a couple of my posts from another thread are relivant to this thread so I will post them here.

Who goes to heaven and who does not is not absolute truth. God is absolute truth. Who goes to heaven and who does not is a matter of Gods will. I do not claim to know all things about God or what He wills. I claim to have some knowledge of God but God is far beyond what I know. He is infinite, so I can not say what His will is.

Even math though can not be absolutely certain. If you doubt truth in an absolute sense as in God and say that all people believe something different and therefore there is no truth then it is just as logical for me to say that your whole conception of reality is screwed up or for you to say the same about me. If I doubt absolute truth, then that means that all things come down to subjective opinion, even math. The only reason we say that math is conclusive is because it makes sense to us. But if you have someone who it does not make sense to then they will not say it is conclusive. That persons subjective opinion is just as valid as mine or yours or even Stephen Hawkings subjective opinion regarding math. Just because your logic and mine and Stephen Hawkings logic has led us to believe that 5 + 5 = 10 that does not actually mean that that is a true statement. What if someone comes along and says, ‘on the contrary, I say that 5 + 5 = 15.’ Who are we to say he is wrong? His subjective logic has led him to a different conclusion than our subjective logic. So math comes down to convincing all that it is true. If you do not convince all that it is true then you still have the justifiable statement that it is false.

We could also make the leap of the ultimate skeptic who says that I can’t even prove that you exist. You might just be a figment of my imagination.

So really, does it get us any where to deny absolute truth? I say no. I does not free us, it only confuses everything.

*exactly my point. humans should not claim
to know god’s will.
we are human.
we are not angels or gods. math is the only
truth we are capable of, for now. math is not
subjective. not at all.*
I do not claim to know Gods will, I claim to know some absolute truths about God that He has revealed to me. God has revealed Himself to a certain degree to all mankind. So there are certain things I can say of God.

Yes, math most definitely is subjective. Just because it makes sense to you or me does not make it any less subjective. If you want to say math is not subjective then the fact of Gods existence is not subjective either. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it is not fact or it is not known by others.

Math is absolutely subjective. If I say that 2 + 2 = 5 then who is anyone to say that it doesn’t? If my logic has proved to me that it is 5 then that is just as valid as you saying it is 4. It is one mans logic against another mans logic. As you said, we all see things differently. Who is to say that you have not missed some fact or that you have simply over analyzed the situation? It is your opinion against mine. Add to this that you can’t even prove to me that you exist, you think you can prove to me that 2 + 2 = 4?

But then again, everything that I have said and you have said and even this sentence itself is subjective. Is there any point in even speaking? It becomes complete insanity. All reality is insanity without absolute truth.
