Nothing? Right - that’s what I guessed.

Your capacity to understand it is in serious question. That bishops throughout the world by and large want to cooperate with the authorities and raise no objections on the grounds you cite should give you cause to reevaluate your understanding.

They demonstrate it when they comply with public health orders to the letter. And when they comply with the road rules. And the Building Codes and the law of the land generally. And they are obligated to do so except when the law of the land directly transgresses the spiritual domain. Such as a law that no one May way publish religious literature.

PART THREE
LIFE IN CHRIST
SECTION ONE
MAN’S VOCATION LIFE IN THE SPIRIT

CHAPTER TWO
THE HUMAN COMMUNION
ARTICLE 2
PARTICIPATION IN SOCIAL LIFE

I. AUTHORITY

1897
"Human society can be neither well-ordered nor prosperous unless it has some people invested with legitimate authority to preserve its institutions and to devote themselves as far as is necessary to work and care for the good of all."15

By “authority” one means the quality by virtue of which persons or institutions make laws and give orders to men and expect obedience from them.

1898 Every human community needs an authority to govern it.16 The foundation of such authority lies in human nature. It is necessary for the unity of the state. Its role is to ensure as far as possible the common good of the society.

1899 The authority required by the moral order derives from God: "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment."17

1900 The duty of obedience requires all to give due honor to authority and to treat those who are charged to exercise it with respect, and, insofar as it is deserved, with gratitude and good-will.

Pope St. Clement of Rome provides the Church’s most ancient prayer for political authorities:18 "Grant to them, Lord, health, peace, concord, and stability, so that they may exercise without offense the sovereignty that you have given them. Master, heavenly King of the ages, you give glory, honor, and power over the things of earth to the sons of men. Direct, Lord, their counsel, following what is pleasing and acceptable in your sight, so that by exercising with devotion and in peace and gentleness the power that you have given to them, they may find favor with you."19

Priests on the way to take holy communion to the sick obey the road rules and are obligated to do so. Or do you say otherwise?

Popes seeking to offer the mass at a massive public gathering ask permission from the State for their gathering and acknowledge that the State has authority to refuse permission on just grounds.

The authority of the state is being used justly and is not directed at religion. The church understands this. You apparently do not.

Wake up.

If a Bishop stood up and declared he felt no obligation to comply with a just public health order because it impeded delivery of a sacrament, and that the State has no authority to make such a public health order binding the church, I am quite sure he would be universally condemned and that would be appropriate.

I live in Manila, Philippines (a Catholic country) and the government has banned all gatherings of more than 5 people and that includes religious gatherings and that is most certainly complied with.
It would be stupid not to comply, not just because of penalties but such gatherings are sources of surges in virus cases.

We are not talking about BLM here. This thread is about restrictions at Mass.
I think the Church authorities are being sensible caring about peoples health.
Your attitude seems to be that everyone should be allowed to go to Mass and who cares if everyone gets covid-19 and then further spreads it!!

CCC 2288 Life and physical health are precious gifts entrusted to us by God. We must take reasonable care of them, taking into account the needs of others and the common good.

Perhaps this “anti-authority”, “individual freedoms are paramount” orientation of many people is a driver of the high infection rates in the US?
Possibly. If so, it then becomes a prudential judgment on what is more beneficial to people overall. Individual freedom is more than enough to many of us. Combine this with the damage done by lock downs and then add in salvation souls and this more than tilts this over the edge.

Nowhere does it say that the people , Bishops included, can’t have access to their authorities through their representatives to voice their concerns or make proposals or propose protocols for certain activities.
From there to completely severe the Bishops and therefore their flock from what legitimate authorities deem best for the common good, well , there is a difference.

Dialogue, dialogue…
If there is something the Church has fostered in critical times is dialogue…
If you think of it, it is about legitimate authorities. Some basic order and respect are necessary.
That doesn’t mean that a region may be at a different phase for example and more openings become fitting whereas other regions may be under more restrictions also necessary…

Nope. I would not.
Same here. I am not in charge of any parish. If I was in a position to speak to the priest, I would. Otherwise, I would consider the matter under the authority of another.

I might make an exception if I knew the bishop had placed limits that were ignored, but I would only report to him. I would not make any report to any civil authority of one who felt religious convictions compelled such actions, the First Amendment thing.

That said, it is still imprudent.

Yes, 100% to the local deanery, the bishop and local health authorities

Here in the Philippines nobody is allowed to go to anyone’s house while the lockdown exists, not even family members or a priest.

Under the Bishop of Rome…who hasn’t but showed great respect and understanding by example…

I understand, yours sounds more of a philosophical question.
Not that you are proposing rebellion 😊
I am thinking that we are zoon politikon by nature. Social beings . And about this healthy unity of body, mind and soul .
It is only just natural that we seek for order. Authorities belong in that natural order.

1 Pet 2 13 For the Lord’s sake accept the authority of every human institution, whether of the emperor as supreme, 14 or of governors, as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing right you should silence the ignorance of the foolish. 16 As servants of God, live as free people, yet do not use your freedom as a pretext for evil. 17 Honor everyone. Love the family of believers.Fear God. Honor the emperor.

We have to obey human authority “for the Lords sake”.

If a religious community is putting the wellbeing of citizens at risk, the state has the authority to act in their welfare such as with the Branch Davidians and Jonestown. If a religious community defies that which is the states perview, the wellbeing of its citizens, it can rightly be stopped and punished.
