Many of us want to be proven something before we will believe, like the crowds following Jesus, and they still didn’t believe.

Faith is of extreme importance as is illustrated in the above passage from Hebrews.

“Test everything; retain what is good.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:21

This verse is not a challenge to faith, but one that implores us to apply wisdom to the knowledge that we gain.

God rewards the faith-filled; faith like a child; innocent, pure.

If God says, through the Bible, that the earth was flooded and the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat, who are we to not believe? I say blessed are those that believe that! God will reward their faithfulness.

Obviously, what has been written and assembled in the Bible is what God has wanted us to see, read, and hear. “Even if it has been mistranslated?” (Another can of worms) Maybe. Do you trust the Church? Do you trust that the Bible was assembled under the guidance of the Spirit? That would mean that the “errors” or “inconsistencies” in the Bible were intentional and for our good. Of course we can explain why they are in the Bible (different understandings/perspectives of the authors), but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re in there and that it is Holy Scripture.

In regards to Noah and the flood, some say that the “mythical flood story” was mistranslated when scribed in Genesis. And that very well could be the case, but it doesn’t change what is in Holy Scripture for us to read and hear as something that can build our relationship with our triune God and help build and protect His Kingdom.

Here is a fascinating website about a book that explains much of the history surrounding the flood story. noahs-ark-flood.com/
Read through the text in the middle and click through the “Next page” links at the end. There is even a page that describes the similarities in text between the different flood story narratives.

In regards to the ark being on Mount Ararat, well, you have two scenarios:
  1. If it is on Mount Ararat, then the only way it could have laid to rest way up there is if God flooded the entire planet. For water levels to reach 15,000 feet or so, the water would have to cover most of the planet.
  2. God did not flood the entire planet and the ark is not on Mount Ararat.
Either way, the fact that there is no hard evidence that the ark is on Mount Ararat does not give one authority to say that the ark is not on Mount Ararat given that God told us that “the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.” Yes, it does not say which mountain, but based off of that verse, in my opinion, it is perfectly acceptable for someone of faith to believe that the ark could be on Mount Ararat. I would also say that it is not acceptable to believe that the “rock formation” is, in fact, the ark, but that is OK to keep a watchful and interested eye in the development of these theories.

One last thing to mention: don’t you think God has not allowed the discovery of the ark for the precise reason of making sure we would be a people of faith? In His timing, if the ark still exists, will reveal it.

Now, you need to ask yourself: do you believe that the ark was laid to rest on one of the mountains of Ararat based upon what you read in Genesis or based upon all of the discovery stories and rock formation theories?

Peace of Christ,
Always,
Nick

We definitely know that a world-wide flood took place. When keeping in mind the fact that Genesis knew about said flood before any geologist/archeologis–This goes the same for dinosaurs (see also: Tanniyn), it would be foolish not to consider at least those particular aspects of the book.

In the case of the flood, faith is not required. The idea that God is the one who warned Noah however, requires faith.

Yes and I believe that time is coming very very soon. I’ve personally noticed an odd spike in biblical archelogy both pro and anti in the past few years and I believe this is the big one coming up…

I believe it is the Ark on MT Ararat, because of what Genesis says, and what has seemed to have occured around this soon to be unveiled mystery, which I have confidence is Noah’s Ark or at least explains the historical eyewitness evidence of it having been there specifically.

Genesis says it rested on Ararat or at lest in the region, in the past people consistantly said it was still there on the Mountain itself… and I STILL BELIEVE it’s still sitting there as per the historical traditions.

By faith I mean:
  1. Confidence or trust in a person or thing.
  2. Belief that is not based on proof.
And not:
3. Belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion.

Why and how do you believe in the flood if not faith?

Peace of Christ,
Always,
Nick

The Genesis Flood and the Ark are very real events and that is how God wants us to understand them. Lets not complicate things by attempting to demonstrate that the Ark still exists although it could. The focus should be on the Flood and Ark event and its meaning to us now. Good books to read: “The Genesis Flood” by Dr. Whitcomb and Dr. Henry Morris from Baker Book House; “Sea Floor Sdiments” by Larry Vardiman, Phd. Institute for Creation Research; " An Ice Age Caused by the Genesis Flood" by Michael Oard, also ICR; “Panoram of Creation” Dr. Carl Baugh. There are many others for those willing to read them. So then, are we decendents of Adam & Eve, or Noah ???

Beenthere, but not there:confused:

Of course Noah and the Flood were real events. God said so, enough for me.

I also believe the Ark is up in those mountains of Ararat. If we don’t look at Adam and Eve/Noah /Abraham et all as historical, it calls into question almost everything we believe. Why? Because these events foreshadow the events in the New Testament.
Thank you all for your valuable insights.
Please keep sharing your thoughts and:
God love you!😉

No evidence of a global flood? What about flood legends in cultures around the world? Why do we find fossils of shell fish on the top of mountains?

I can think of no better explanation for fossilization. For an animal to become a fossil, it needs to be buried very rapidly before it decays, or becomes the victim of scavengers.

People who see a global flood as a myth point out that the atmosphere could not contain enough water to rain for forty days and forty night, and then cover the Earth, and they are correct. The Biblical account speaks of the fountains of the deep (subterranian water).

The most likely event that caused the flood was a comet or ice ball that come to close to the Earth. At a point known as Roche’s Limit, the smaller body disintigrated from the effects of the Earths gravity. Parts of the Earth received ice at temperatures approaching Absolute Zero. This is the only explanation I have heard for the thousands of wooly mammoths found embedded in ice. There is no way to quick freez an animal that size today, other than emersing it in liquid nitrogen, or some liquid at that temperature. The smaller particles melted in the atmosphere and came down as rain.

The gravitational force from this ice ball probably precipitated the fracturing of the Earth’s crust, releasing the “fountains of the deep”, and caused the eventual mountain uplifts. This would explain where all the water went. The dynamics of the encounter with the ice ball fractured the Earth’s crust. As the crust shifted, parts were raised while others depressed. The water eventually filled the lower areas which became the oceans.

I do have faith that God is the one who caused the flood and that He told Noah to build the Ark.

I’m just saying that the occurence of the flood itself is already proven through scientific discovery; I don’t need faith in the sense that I know for a fact that the deluge happened.

Just to clarify: are you saying that your belief is based on “scientific discovery” or the Word of God?

How about: “I believe in the flood because I have faith in the Word of God and trust that it is true and all of these scientific discoveries reinforce my belief.” Is this what you mean to say?

Let your belief start with God and then let His creation invite you into a deeper understanding of Him and His creation.

In answer to the question “Are we decendants of Adam and Eve or Noah?” we are both. God created Adam and Eve; their decendants included Noah and his family. God’s world wide flood killed all people not in the Ark. From the Ark, Noah and his family populated the world. If you don’t think that is correct see Genesis and the words of Jesus himself. See also Newsweek’s account of the “One Eve”. In the alternative, provide your own best account with sources. Also read the Live of Anne Catherine Emmerich, Mystic and other such. Patrick

That works.

I just wanted to separate the two for the sake of argument; even if someone doesn’t believe in the Bible’s contention that God does exist and that he has bestowed upon us a particular philosophy, they would still have to take into account that it’s an historically relevant document the credibility of which has been backed by scientific discovery.

Well, which ever it it, who are our ancestors? Noah or Adam?
If the wole world was flooded, is Noah still a decendent of Adam, or are we the decendents of Noah???
amh

**look at it like this…
if your mother or father died, you’d still be a decendent of either/both.
God created adam and eve—we all came from those 2. **

Yes, Noah was a descendant of Adam, and we are also descendants of Adam through Noah.

I’m currently involved in a Bible Study on Genesis. We read the story of Noah, the Ark and the Flood.
Does anyone here have any links or book suggestions on finding out more of the historical authenticity of this event. According to tradition and scripture ,the Ark is resting on Mount Ararat(in modern Turkey).
I remember reading something about that a long time ago.
Anyone have any leads on this?
Is the story symbolic as well or a real historical event as I believe?
Just letting yo know I have much from testemonials on vidio and DVD Iwill check out tomorrow .
God bless
