Nor are they required to treat everything as a symbol. Catholics are allowed to believe that the first several chapters of Genesis are either literal or allegorical. There is no requirement either way.
Agreed however; for myself when there’s confusion trying to waste effort on rational questions and answers on Genesis beyond the scope of human understanding; I’d rather except all that’s implied along with the rest of the Holy Bible in Faith due to the supernatural essence of God and His influence therein. That to me is where it counts most IMHO with the added mindset of humility.

That is false. There are rules for interpreting the Bible, including the Book of Genesis.

This is the same old, same old question. God is God and nothing is impossible for Him.

Peace,
Ed

Probably b/c they believe it as literal truth. If you believed it as a allegory than you wouldn’t need or want proof. Truth seeks evidence.
Evidence for Jesus raising the dead, giving sight to the blind or raising Himself, bodily, from the dead, all without the use of science and technology?

Evidence is asked for today, for only one reason: “Why doesn’t God do some particular thing today that shows He’s God?”

Pope John Paul II is only one miracle away from sainthood, These aren’t aren’t things that only happened 2,000 years ago. The Church goes to great lengths to examine each claim of a miracle today, to verify or disprove it.

My statement was not false. At least I don’t think it was.

I think a lot of people try to make some kind mockery or devalued sense of Genesis and everything entailed therein. The important part contained in Genesis as a whole is God revealing Himself to us His people.

I believe in Faith there are as many mysteries hidden in the cherished book of Genesis are there are in the Apocalypse. Both should be held in humble acceptance as with the rest of the Holy Bible without putting it through some scrutinizing sifter as if to boast complete understanding. The main thrust of all contained in Genesis and the Story of Noah has a supernatural importance due to God.
No biblical scholar today would hold that Genesis presents history in the modern sense of that term.
The founding sacred biblical authors’ conception of history as a linear movement of events determined by divine intervention
and tending to a divinely conceived goal militates against such a presentation. They were interested in the “facts” of history
only inasmuch as they illustrated the divine plan behind Genesis. This interest was the overiding factor in their choice of material.
With regard to the patriarchial history, the basic “facts” included such items as the movements of the patriarchs,
their occupations, their relations with their neighbors and their marriages and deaths.
Their is every reason for the scientific biblical historian to accept the basic family history in Genesis, which served as the foundation
for the authors religious history. The sciences of ancient Near East history and especially of archaeology have shown the the underlying
social, juridicial, political, geographical, and religious conditions in Genesis are precisely those of the 2nd millennium and could not have been
invented by an author living in a much later time period. Consequently; strictly on historical grounds, historians admit the existence of these
seminomadic shepherds who originated, at least proximately, in Upper Mesopotamia, migrated to Canaan, lived out their lives much as
described in Genesis, and at least some whom descended into Egypt.
These “facts,” however; were primitively recorded and preserved in a popular form. Personal names were given etymological explanations to stress
the character either of the person or of his descendants. Family incidents were “dressed up” to serve as material for ballads and sagas sung
or recounted for the entertainment and edification of the local inhabitants. Some events could be given a framework based on local cult legends
or cultic practices to illustrate their religious significance.
This is the type of material passed down through the ages to give account of the preservation of history in Genesis, in individual units,
or in some cases, in cycles of traditions, to the sacred historians of later Israel. They in turn made their own literary contributions to clairify
their own purpose, which was, above all, religious.
Sacred historians through the ages wished to show the (“divine plan”) successively revealed in the events of history, and they therefore
stressed the divine initiative throughout.
Abraham’s migration to the land of Canaan is not a haphazard incident conditioned solely by the circumstances of the time period, but primarily
a divine call he could not ignore. The patriarch’s adventures in Canaan, his successful transactions with others, his escapes from harm,
his once said to be barren wife Sarah, the birth of his chidren, all are introduced and explained in the light of God’s
“divine plan” to form Himself a people who would ultimately possess the land and worship Him alone.
This divine plan is concretized in the form of a promise made to Abraham and in those of his descendants (“Isaac and Jacob”).
This unifying divine plan, expressed in the successive promises, similarily explains the adventures of these descendants.
The patriarchial history, therefore along with the Story of Adam and Eve therefore, has an absolute unity by absolute reason of the “divine purpose”.
Because it is Supernatural, the purpose is beyond the effective control of modern scientific history.
Therefore; the ultimate meaning of Genesis like other books in the Bible, will always elude all human relativism,
and the historian who works outside its religious postulates.

Truth is found in Catholic doctrines which flow from the first three chapters of Genesis.

but we should be able to understand all things that god has delievered to us including the bible, Right? because we are expected to understand everything gods delivered to us.
its considered to be a catholic duty and a christian responsibility.🙂

The OP asked: “How were the animals from the ocean saved during Noah and the ark?”

The answer: They swam.

Creatures in the ocean live in the water–why would they need to be saved from the water when they…wait for it…LIVE IN THE WATER? 😛

Because the seas rose and the salt water contaminated the fesh water and all the fresh water fish died, except for trout.

Trout were the only creatures to have survived. Trout survived, and one amphibious olive tree from which Noah’s pet dove was able to recover a leaf.

Unfortunately, amphibious olive trees as they existed at the time of Noah are now extinct. The descendants of the biblical amphibious olive trees have evolved into sea grass and mangroves. It should be noted that the amphibious olive trees after Noah were all descendents from that one real parent amphibious olive tree, and that the evolution of Biblical amphibious olive trees into sea grass and mangroves took place -after- the six days of creation, so none of this contradicts any Magisterial teaching of the Church.

I can provide Biblical proof of all this as soon as I get back from dinner. We were going to go to the Olive Garden (ahem) but decided to go for steak instead, in honor of Noah being allowed to eat meat after the flood subsided. I wonder if Longhorn serves dove?

And remember… you can tune a piano, but you can’t tuna fish. 😃

Thats pretty good never heard it before, I didnt think it would matter if the salt water would have contaminated the fresh? i guess it was because i figured the flood was more miraculous and i felt that the two waters would naturally seperate again I dunno but i guess
… i would like to here your thoughts though regarding this subject that could be interesting:)

Which is why it’s a waste of time trying to figure out how freshwater fish survived.
Both salt and freshwater fish can be kept in a balanced tank as the fish salinity between fresh and salt water is very similar.

Again, all the OP asked is what happened to the animal in the OCEAN. I answered his question because no one did. Considering the flood was most likely a localized event in the dawn of humanity when our species had not occupied any area outside the Middle East. That’s why it doesn’t really matter.

The story is meant to tell us to live according to God’s will or face the consequences, and as a symbol of the coming death and resurrection of Christ. Let’s not make it into such a hoop-dee-doo over nothing. 🤷

The fact that the Trinity is a mystery does not mean that we cannot understand it. It means that we can never understand it fully. I’m reading St. Augustine’s treatise on the Trinity currently and I can say that I understand the doctrine better now than before I began.
