Are these in contradiction?

Gen 6:20 says “Of fowls after their kind and of cattle [etc.]…two of
every sort shall come unto thee…”

Gen 7:2,3 says “Of every clean beast thou shall take to thee by sevens…Of
fowls also of the air by sevens…”

Nope they do not contradict each others.
First which translation are you using. My Catholic Public Edition Bible has:

Chapter 6
6:19 And from every living thing of all that is flesh, you shall lead pairs into the ark, so that they may survive with you: from the male sex and the female,
6:20 from birds, according to their kind, and from beasts, in their kind, and from among all animals on earth, according to their kind; pairs from each shall enter with you, so that they may be able to live.

In the first chapter God instructs Noah to take “pairs” not in the sense “only 2 animals” of each species which seems it is what you surmised, but a pair constituted of 1 male and 1 female of each species.
In the second verse God goes into the specifics of how many pairs Noah should take.

Chapter 7
7:2 From all the clean animals, take seven and seven, the male and the female. Yet truly, from animals that are unclean, take two and two, the male and the female.
7:3 But also from the birds of the air, take seven and seven, the male and the female, so that offspring may be saved upon the face of the whole earth.

This totally makes sense as first, God instructs to take “pairs” then He further specifies how many pairs of each species Noah should take.

No; in chapter 6, God instructs Noah that the way that animals will be saved is that Noah will take a male and a female of every species into the ark with him. In chapter 7, God further specifies that, whereas ‘unclean’ animals shall only be represented by one pair each, the ‘clean’ animals will be represented by seven pairs. After all, there are two important considerations here: first, what did Noah and his family eat? If they ate one of only two animals of a species, then that species would disappear from the earth! Similarly, how could Noah make an offering of animals to the Lord (see Gen 8:20), if he only had one pair of each species?

So, in retrospect, unless there were the clarification that some animals would be represented by seven male-female pairs, there would be no opportunity for God to allow Noah to utilize animals… unless He meant that Noah should make animals extinct by utilizing them…
