The fact is the text can not be rescued.
The text is inerrant. Any contradictions condemn the opposing theories, not the divinely revealed facts.
That which is said to be divinely revealed flies in the face of multiple branches of science.

In the OT, the message/lesson is more important than when it is a fully historical document.

Not every major world religion has a story regarding a flood. Some do, it tends to be a theme for religions formed by people who live in flood plains (Egypt, Mesopotamia, some parts of China).

So a story can contain outright falsehoods and fabrications?

It’s okay to add to Scripture even though we are warned multiple times not to do so?

And why limit this escape hatch for troublesome OT passages? Why not allow falsehoods in troublesome NT passages?

Unfortunately oh-that-doesn’t-count is too often the answer in Apologetics.

  1. Sacred Scripture is the highest science
  2. it does not fly in the face of “science” but only of some popular theories.
  3. The Ressurection flies in the face of most theories of “science” as does every miracle.

I can basically guarantee that every one of us has an ancestor who was a murderer, if you go back far enough.

MarlboroMan, exactly when are you supposing this flood happened?

It’s not adding and it’s not a falsehood. It’s a variance in interpretation, but I see that you are an atheist, so really you are likely trying to back up what you think, which is it’s all false.

Geography, Geology, Genetics. Didn’t even have to leave the Gs.

(Note I’m just talking about the interpretation that the flood covered the entire world, not any flood at all).

Over 70 cultures have the flood story. Ancient Chinese characters have it imbedded.

Produce the empirical proofs.
Give me a few minutes to find the source. Off the top of my head there is a trouble with the amount of moisture in the air to rain needed to flood the earth and its mountains would’ve been highly unbreatheable.

That link does not have 70 civilizations.

You will not find empirical evidence to support your claim.

We can just skip forward. If one levels the earth right now we will be under 7000 feet of water. In addition, in recent years we found a giant ocean under China. We also now see tremendous amounts of water in the rocks.
