MtDNA shows we all are descended from one man. There are several places that claim to be where Noah is buried. There is a constant tradition.

Robert Ballard of Titanic fame claims he has found evidence of a huge flood around 5000 BC.

Now, my question for buffalo is, if geologists can tell that this specific set of geological formations were formed by floods, and can even p(name removed by moderator)oint with a fair degree of accuracy when that happened… why don’t they see that everywhere else on earth ?
They do. Look for satellite photos that show the runoffs. Also, check out paleocurrents.

It has many genres
Agreed. But even the historical texts were written not so much to record “facts” as we do now, but to show God’s involvement in the drama of humanity. Archeology will show the Bible contains historical facts, but you shouldn’t use it as an archeological guide book.

lol

That can’t be because of interbreeding in the last couple hundred of years, no sirree. And I’m just going to go ahead and ignore that genetics should show 3/3 of Native Americans should have European ancestry if a worldwide flood is to be believed. To say nothing of the fact that the bridge melted 11,000 years ago and Noah’s flood is supposed to have happened 4,000 years ago.

Tradition is not science.
Historical science is science. Evolution and the flood are not empirical science.

Historical science looks for evidence of past one time events that cannot be duplicated. We gather the knowledge from all sources.

We can connect the dots.

There was definitely a historical Noah. That isn’t up for debate.
Um, yes it is.
You’re on a Catholic forum. This piece is not up for debate.
Catholics debate. I’m Catholic and I’m debating all of this. I’ve never considered the Bible to be a science book.

But God was so disgusted by the marrying of the daughters of Cain and the sons of Seth that He drowned the entire earth. I wouldn’t feel safe being a progeny of Cain. What if God decides to drown me?

I think the Flood happened anywhere from ten to four thousand years ago, but i could be convinced it happened earlier if i was provided good evidence.
The Bible is not a science textbook nor should it be viewed as a historical document
St. Thomas Aquinas disagrees about the first one and the Church disagrees about the second.

MtDNA shows we all are descended from one man.
DNA also shows that I am descended from my father’s father. That is not the same thing as saying I am only descended from one man. This is a flatout wrong interpretation of MtDNA.

Really? And Noah was buried in multiple places? Or are some of them lying? Is it possible that if some of them are lying that all of them are lying? What exactly are you arguing here?

Robert Ballard of Titanic fame claims he has found evidence of a local flood around 5,000 BC, which btw is before the earth was created 6,000 years ago if you’re going by strict Biblical literalist timelines.

We are all brothers descended from this one man. Yes MtDNA is maternal. Sorry. I should have been referencing what they call Y Adam.

Yes, they all could be lying, or a few, or none if they split up his bones. We do not know. Perhaps we should test the bones and see what we come up with.

Yes, he calls it a local flood, but a big one.

But he is still right when he says Sacred Scripture is a science and the highest science.

If you think he is wrong than by all means, refute his arguments. It’s the first argument in the Summa.

Not that I’m aware of
How about the very first verse in Genesis.

In the beginning (time), God created the heavens (space) and the earth (matter). Science has only recently confirmed this and we have known it for thousands of years.

He definitely WAS a scientist!

No one knows what “science” means anymore 😦
