It seems like nobody cares about the plight of the unborn during this election cycle. It’s not even coming up except to say who is or is not in favor of abortion. It’s seen as a “divisive” issue that distracts voters from the “real issues.” Pro-lifers can’t get a fair shake in the media or in academia; I’m doing a paper on Catholics in the pro-life movement, and every single book or article I’ve seen is pro-abortion (so much for objectivity). When people see images of aborted babies, they just think it’s impolite or gross, not that somebody actually died. I don’t understand this apathy.

The candidates all have a position on the issue. It just does not agree with yours. They will not spend much time talking about an issue on which they essentially agree with each other.

This is how American politics works whether we agree with the process or not. Our system still works infinitely better than many other options in the world because we at least retain the possibility of peaceful change in the future.

But there’s not even any discussion. For a supposedly hot-button issue, there’s remarkable silence about abortion, not just in politics but in the media. It’s almost like the matter is closed.

lucy:

You are right that this issue has effectivly been sidelined.

You can see what I (very carefully) wrote about one of the candidates who openly supports infanticide of babies that survive abortion attempts, and how no one cares about this.

This is a sad day for America, but it just means that we have to go back to work, educating people and praying.

Hi Lucy,
It is discouraging. But we are winning the right to life of the unborn. The battle for the hearts and minds of the next generation is, I believe, largely won on this issue. It is seen by the GenX and Gen Y set as an issue of fairness - it is unfair to deprive innocent human beings of life. The baby boomers are still in positions of power in the media, the academy, and the bureaucracy but their days are numbered. In the next 20 years I believe there will be a ferocious rear guard action from these folks and then they will fall - most likely from their wheelchairs. The issue of same-sex marriage and euthanasia is, however, a different story.

The consolidation of our executive powers is such that abortion doesn’t need to be discussed. It is moot for either party.

Besides, those who are against abortion won’t talk about it because the media will slaughter them and those who are for abortion won’t talk about it because they know a majority of Americans are prolife.

This is working. Everyone I know who is in any way catholic/religious and prolife has voted for a very anti-abortion nominee. They are clueless. Huhdoy.
