I used to have a problem with masturbation my whole life but I turned away from that sin after I had a reversion back to Christ.

Ever since my conversion something odd has been happening to me… Whenever I go to confession which is about once every two weeks, what happens is after I confess, I go home and feel a sense of closeness to God and feel really good about being in a state of grace. Then I go to bed that night after confession, and like clockwork I have a dream in a semi-conscious state (I dont feel fully awake, or fully asleep) and I begin to induce an orgasm through dirty thoughts, in a dream, and in the dream I’m masturbating or doing something to bring on an orgasm. It never seems to happen on any other day, other than the day I go to confession.

I dont get this. It drives me nuts because then I feel like I need to run right back to confession again. I feel like my state of grace gets ruined.

I really feel like this is demonic. I feel the devil has been tempting me towards lust since I was a little girl. I was only a toddler when I had my first orgasm. I’ve read that that’s not normal.

I told the priest in the confessional about this problem yesterday and he didnt say much about it, he sort of glossed over it. But sure enough I had the same thing happen to me last night. I know that if I’m asleep, then I’m not culpable, but sometimes I feel like I have control of the experience.

Does this sound demonic to you? What more can I do?

Maybe or it may be just hormones.

You may want to pray to St. Michael every night to keep you safe.

Nothing that happens to you in your sleep or in your dreams are demonic or sinful. When asleep or half-asleep, your will is inoperative (and yes, this includes so-called “lucid” dreaming). It is therefore impossible to sin.

It could just be that by confessing to these sorts of things, you bring back the memory of them and thus they’re more present to your subconscious mind before sleeping. This then triggers the dreams. But dreams are not sinful; one must be in control of his faculties to commit a sin. I would maybe bring it up with as priest outside of confession, in the context of some spiritual direction. If it really bothers you it might also be wise to seek a counselor’s opinion, especially if you believe this to be rooted much deeper. Persevere in prayer, stay close to the sacraments, and be patient with yourself.

Dreams are not sinful. Period. Worrying about them may be inducing these dreams. Stop worrying about it and they will likely decrease.

Have you ever prayed the Our Father and the Hail Mary in your sleep? Why not consciously put it to mind before you sleep, to do this, and maybe also follow this with the Prayer to St. Michael? Learning to pray when asleep might sort this out. If you pray before sleep to ask to be able to remember the words when asleep then this might clear up. Also, such a young age for such a thing could be the link that you need to discuss, with your Holy Mother, or someone within Church circles, to heal the issue, as it could be such a trauma, and specifically this trauma, which is replaying and manifesting in this way. The fact that this is happening is possibly a way of your subconscious telling you that this memory requires healing from Our Lord - in fact, come to think of it, you could try asking a priest to pray over you the ‘Healing of Memories’.

Sex dreams are not sinful or demonic. End of story. Let it go and quit with the worrying.

Nocturnal orgasms are not in any way sinful. You have no control over your will at that time. I don’t know why they happen, but I wouldn’t get worried about it.
