I was baptized as a Roman Catholic and I’ve started to pray the Rosary again. I attended mass at a local Catholic Church and was disappointed in the congregation. The priest was excellent but the congregation was noisy, rude, and not very warm. My Mom felt the same way. I talked to a friend about it and he said its common in the city we live in. I’d rather not name that city. I don’t know what else to do I want to attend Mass but having difficulty finding a local church that’s peaceful.

Where in the church did you sit? Try sitting near the front, there are less distractions and you will be able to hear the priest better even if its noisy. If the noise is too much, try looking for a smaller parish with less people. Other options for a less well-attended Mass with less people and hence less noise including an Ordinariate Mass, an Eastern Divine Liturgy, an EF Mass or a Mass early in the morning (or later in the morning). In my area at least, the Saturday Vigil is also less busy than Sunday morning.

Maybe you can try an early morning Mass. I’ve found them to be generally quieter than later Masses.

We sat in the middle and all the little kids sat up front so it was less noisy where we sat. My moms gonna try to find another church in the meantime until then I guess I’ll have to be patient. Thanks God bless.

Good luck. Noise - from talking, humming, fiddling with phones, phones ringing, and so on - is just a part of modern life. Try ear plugs. Tho they don’t cut out a lot of noise - perhaps hymns on your phone? With ear buds, of course. I just found out how to add music to my smart phone (slow learner) and am considering doing this.

This is assuming that you mean before and after Mass, not during.

I mean during.
well, that would depend, what kind of noise are we talking about?

if it’s phones ringing and adults talking, yes, that’s inappropriate, though I’ve never really been to a parish where that happens during mas

if it’s kids crying, well, I tink that is just something to deal with, after all, they should be there, Jesus wants them

even talking before and after mass, I find, at least where that live, that most people do that out in the foyer or hall, very rarely is it actually noisy inside the churches

and even if there is moving or talking happening, it’s at qite a low volume,

It’s all sorts of noise. It’s completely unnecessary.
Matt, I completely agree with you about the noise. But it’s not a good idea to complain about it here. I know from sad experience that you will be told it’s your problem - that we should be accepting of everyone at Mass no matter how noisy they are. 😦

I don’t mean to complain about it I was just seeking some guidance.

I meant complain in the more generic sense. Not that you are “complaining.”

I’ll keep following this & see if you get some actual guidance (which might help me, too), or if it’s just more of the same. I’m not too hopeful. 😦

We go to the 8:00 a.m. Mass It is quieter than the 10:00 a.m. mainly because we are not quite awake yet. Also, it is real hard for parents to get the kids up that early. We do have children but I know that it is real hard for the parents.

I remember this one time, I was praying reverently in the front of the Church, just thanking God for making me a good Catholic, but there was this disheveled man in the back of the Church who was making some bizarre motion with his fists on his torso and generally being loud. I gave him a look so he’d know how rude he was being, but I don’t think I’m going to go back to a Church that has that sort of person coming in.

And people wonder why Catholics are looked at as cold hearted and unfriendly. 😦
I am just glad Jesus did not have this attitude.

I think you missed the sarcasm in the post. Not saying it is right, only that the post seemed to be a sarcastic take-off of a story in the NT.

I’m sorry that you misunderstood, I actually asked myself if this was a lie, but I assumed the meaning would be obvious enough that it wouldn’t be misinterpreted. But like the above poster mentioned, it was just the parable reworked.

Sorry. Just more proof that some things don’t translate well on the Internet.
And sadly, an attitude I have come to expect in most cases, especially in this particular sub forum.
Again my apologies for assuming the worst. That’s what happens when I post before coffee. 😛
